So, my favourite fortnight of the year was supposed to start yesterday. For those who don’t know, that’s Wimbledon fortnight. And if you’re wondering why that’s at all relevant to a food blog, last year I celebrated the event by posting six strawberries and cream inspired recipes. And I had every intention of doing the same thing this. The note on my phone I was planning them in has been on the go since Wimbledon last year. It’s a little series that I get very excited about. In case you can’t tell, I’m still bitter about it.
Obviously, the cancellation of events is a sign of the times and I’m in no way suggesting it should still have been held. But putting my lack of viewing entertainment to one side, that also leaves me in a sticky situation content wise. Those two weeks had been blocked since before the year even started and my planner was yet to be purchased. Recipes were planned, I was good to go. Then I had a two week hole.
Post them anyway?
I thought for a while about whether to post them anyway, but that didn’t quite feel right. It’s not like there’s never going to be a Wimbledon again. And it’s not like there’s an unlimited amount of strawberries and cream themed recipes my brain has on tap. This year’s list has rolled over to next year’s plan, and I’m taking the theme and twisting it a little.
Back to basics
Instead of a series of recipes, we’re now having a mini-series of how tos. The original recipe list included things like a vegan strawberry ice cream recipe and a vegan Eton Mess. Now, we’re going back to basics. Over the next fortnight you’ll be getting a series of recipes like how to make vegan ice cream and how to make vegan meringues (for the Eton Mess).
I’ll save the details of the strawberries & cream elements for strawberries & cream season next year. But you’ll have plenty of time to practice the basic elements so those recipes can be even better next year.
The recipes coming your way over the next two weeks definitely aren’t quite as exciting as the ones I had originally planned, but I hope you still find them useful nonetheless. Meringues are first up and coming your way on Thursday. Until then, maybe check out last year’s strawberries and cream series? I’ll leave them linked below.
Until next time,
Sophie

I don’t know, meringues sound pretty exciting to me! I used to live down the road from Wimbledon tennis – that’s where I grew up – so strawberries and cream have a very special place in my heart too. I’ll look forward to seeing what we get in place of those, and seeing the return of strawberries and cream season when we get the tennis back!
Ah, it’s such a shame Wimbledon won’t be going ahead, and not just because we can’t look forward to your new strawberries and cream recipes! But thank you for the reminder of the golden oldies, I’d forgotten how yummy your pancakes and blondies were, yum yum! Lisa x
While we can understand on a logical level why our events are being cancelled, that doesn’t mean we aren’t disappointed when it happens! I understand. Unfortunately, a few events that I look forward to each year have already been cancelled and I know that more will be as we move forward. I think your decision to hold off on your recipes is probably best – now you’re just ahead of the game on planning for next year!
I remember these recipes vividly because I love strawberries. Strawberries are my favorite fruit. I love to try recipes that contain strawberries especially when it comes to desserts.
Some lovely recipes to make with strawberries Sophie! I love the sound of the smoothie bowl! x

Those strawberry and white chocolate blondies look INSANE – will be trying those out ASAP. It’s a shame about Wimbledon and your content; but as you said at least you can post them again next year. Thanks for updating us all x

I’m so sorry that the event you were looking forward to got cancelled. There’s been a lot of that around here happening unfortunately too. But these strawberry recipes you linked looks absolutely delicious! I love baking with strawberries and I always love to make a strawberry themed dessert for the Fourth of July which is coming up soon! Thanks for sharing all these great ideas!
I am so ready for an Eton Mess recipe!! Lockdown has totally made me forget what season we are in, so I think I need to get me some strawbs ASAP!

Ah that must be so frustrating! I’m looking forward to you how-to series though, it’ll be fun to learn the basics – especially if they’ll be featuring in future recipes 🙂 x

Looking forward to seeing the how to posts! It is a shame that things have had to be cancelled although totally understandable. I am just craving some strawberry white chocolate blondies now though haha.
Chloe xx
I’ll definitely miss the strawberries and cream recipes this year but I’m really looking forward to all of your how to posts because I’m a complete newbie when it comes to baking and cooking! X
I definitely feel you on being gutted about wimbledon- there are so many things i had planned for this year that have flown out the window. It is super annoying about your content though 🙁 depending on how summery it is, maybe you could rework it for christmas seasonal? (the colours are very loosely related if you ignore the tastes aha) xx

That’s sad that you are not posting those recipes anymore, but it is what it is. I like the idea of the back to basics though.
This looks crazy good! I LOVE strawberries in the summer – it’s so refreshing!
My mum used to make an Eton Mess. My sister and I always call each other when it’s Wimbeldon tennis weekend. Pimms, a good brunch and enjoyment. Have a lovely week.
I don’t blame you for being bitter about this! It is definitely a sign of the times but we are still allowed to miss things and feel sad we’re missing out on experiences we’ve been planning and looking forward to for a while. I am definitely missing travelling, for example – and no, I wouldn’t actually want to travel right now but there’s still a travel shaped hole in my heart. I am looking forward to this new series (and to the strawberry and cream recipes eventually)!
Strawberry is my favorite. but I don’t like ice cream, ice cream is too cold, I can’t bear this
