I can’t quite believe that it’s time for yet another one of these. For those of you who are new or have just stumbled across this post, I do these me vs you posts twice a year. Once at the end of the year as a full year recap, and once after I complete my Recipe A Day May series. I look over my most popular posts and compare them to the ones that were my favourites – and it’s time to take a look at my most popular and favourite posts from May 2020.
For anyone reading this who also has a blog, I highly recommend doing this – even if you don’t publish it. It’s quite insightful to see where your audience is at and if you’re on the same page. And it’s a useful tool for planning future content.
Anyway, these are my most popular new posts of the month, so any older posts that have ranked well because of organic traffic or Pinterest aren’t included. This year I found it quite hard to predict which ones would do well; two or three stood out immediately as ones I thought would do well, but I also got a couple of surprises when I went over my stats.
My Predictions
I don’t normally include a predictions list in these posts, but I feel like guessing this month. At this point I know two recipes from earlier in May have performed well but I haven’t checked my final numbers yet and want to see how well I do. In no particular order, I think the following posts will be in my top 5 most viewed:
- Sweet potato brownies
- Scones
- Chocolate tart
- Brownie oats
- …okay, I’m not sure after that.
My 5 favourite Recipe A Day May Posts
This one is going to do well for sure, brownie anything always performs well. But this is one of my favourites for the month because I’d seen sweet potato brownies floating around the internet for the longest time but this batch was my first attempt and they turned out brilliantly.

When I tell you I loved this dish, I mean I loved this dish. It tasted great. My photos turned out well. I was a very very very happy foodie content creator.

Again, I was so happy with the visuals on this post. And it tastes great, obviously, that’s important. But butternut squash is one of my favourite ingredients so I think this was always going to be a personal favourite.

I don’t think this one is going to rank that highly for the month because it sounds like a very basic recipe, but this was probably the nicest smoothie bowl I’ve ever eaten in my life.

These were made on a whim when I made the carrot cake energy balls and I ended up loving them more than the energy balls. So simple to make and not bad for you either!

My 5 Most Viewed Posts of May 2020
I don’t know how I forgot about this one because it definitely should have been in my favourites list instead of the cookies. If you didn’t catch this recipe last month, check this one out now. Baked cookie dough, frozen cookie dough and cookies all in one post.

I mean, as a general rule you can be fairly confident anything baked and chocolatey is going to do reasonably well. No surprises here.

This one was a complete surprise to me. I loved making this one and will definitely be eating this again at home in the not too distant future. But, when you look at the rest of this list, it’s all sweetness and baked goods. That’s sort of what I expect from a best of, so a cauliflower recipe being one of the best of the month was a shock. You guys are healthier than I thought you were, apologies…

Back in April, I did a three dessert inspired oatmeal recipes post and one of them was for brownie batter oats and that post did extremely well. Meaning I already had a benchmark for how well this one was going to do. No surprises with this one. Although I will say that I don’t think the photos do this one justice.

I would have been extremely disappointed if this one didn’t turn out to be the best performing post of the month. Brownies always do well, and the photos turned out well too. Just look at them. How could they not be the best???

Just FYI, the scones from my predictions list ranked at #7, so just missed out.
So, there we go. My best performing and favourite recipes from the month of May. Were any of you shocked by the results here? I’m currently giving myself a very big pat on the back for my predictions. Turns out I know my audience pretty well…
Until next time,
Sophie
These are always so interesting to read. I can definitely see why the chocolatey ones would do the best, everyone loves a bit of chocolate! The cauliflower one is quite surprising, but also I’m kinda glad as it was probably one of my favourites – but I am obsessed with cauliflower at the moment.
Chloe xx
I guess if I were to guess at something like this I would have no idea, and so while I am not shocked at the result, I guess I wouldn’t know if that makes sense, but Cauliflower recipes are always my favorite so I’m glad that is on the list 🙂
I would actually love to try the sweet potato brownies I think they would be so interesting!

Your recipes are amazing! Well done for keeping up with this!
I don’t normally like brownies that much. (Much to the disapproval of my fiance and family haha) Sometimes I’ll eat a bite here and there, but that’s usually it. I will say the pictures and description of them being sweet potato brownies have intrigued me though! I might have to try this one. Even if I don’t want them I know my loved ones would devour them!
Those brownies look gorgeous! Also that butternut squash pasta looks amazing too! x

They all look absolutely fabulous, I would honestly find it very difficult to choose one favourite! I love the vegan cookie dough and the brownie batter baked oats in particular, but your photography is so beautiful and they all sound so scrumptious! I am totally drooling over this post. PS: And yes, this kind of comparison is such a good idea – I might give it a go on my blog too!

Those sweet potato brownies look and sound YUM! I didn’t even know they were a thing until now haha I must try to make them for myself and my fam asap x
This is an interesting idea for a post! I really do need to look at my analytics but as I only blog what I wear I’m not going to be changing what I wear just to suit numbers, haha! I can see how this would be so helpful for you though as you can see what people love (brownies would have been my top pick too!) and use that as inspiration for other recipes 🙂 Nice for me to see so many yummy food options in one post too!
Hope you are having a lovely weekend 🙂 I went shopping with my sister yesterday, it was a lot of fun and nice to get out to the stores again 🙂
These all look so good! I have my eye on the vegan cookie dough x
This article is literally making me so hungry. I definitely need to get up and fix myself something. I’ve never had sweet potato brownies but your images are mouth watering. Have you tried brownies made with applesauce. They are so yummmy. I also love cauliflower cooked just about any kind of way, including baked. You reminded me that I should make some. And butternut squash pasta? What a great idea. Basically. I love this post. Lol
This is such a fun idea! Ive loved baking and cooking new things in lockdown!
These look amazing, especially the brownies! I might have to try them out!
Thank you for these recipes!! Everything looks so tasty!

Good taste has been everyone’s favourite
It is always surprising to see what you enjoy writing as opposed to what people enjoy reading! I loved seeing your predictions, and love that at least one of them was right, though I do love good surprising reading my stats page. 🙂
This is such a great post Sophie. All this food looks so yummy! Making me hungry! Where do you come up with inspiration for your meals? I am wanting to eat for veggie and would love some tips!
