I didn’t know what to call this recipe and I know some people don’t like it when people blend cultures with recipes, but call this what you wish. A while ago now I discovered some vegan and gluten free naan breads on the free from aisle in a supermarket and it was a very exciting moment. For those who don’t know, most naans contain dairy. So, finding vegan ones is a challenge to begin with, that’s before you add GF into the mix. When I was deciding what to do with them, I wasn’t feeling like a curry that week. So, I decided to use them as more of a flatbread, made some Indian spiced roasted chickpeas and falafels and turned them into a sort of vegan naan bread pizza recipe. Â
If GF naan breads aren’t an option for you, I tried this out with pitta breads too. Not the same, not as good in my humble opinion, but it works. And it’s quick and convenient.
They’re really easy to make! After you’ve made the falafel mix, which takes approximately 2 minutes in a food processor, all that’s really left to do is throw everything in the oven then assemble it when it’s all cooked. As far as meals go, it doesn’t take a whole lot of effort and they’re not that bad for you either. Obviously, a naan isn’t the most nutritious option, but chickpeas/ falafels are pretty good for you and the whole thing overall is a lot healthier than a frozen pizza, and it takes about the same amount of time. Â
Nutritional InformationÂ
This will vary slightly depending on your naan breads and where they came from. Please take the following information as an estimate only. Â
Per serving this recipe provides 12g of protein and 14g of fibre. Â
Indian Naan Bread Pizzas Recipe Â
Gluten free naan breads topped with mango chutney, Indian spiced falafels and roasted chickpeas to make Indian naan bread pizzas. A great low effort dinner option for those days where you can’t really be bothered to cook but don’t want to order in either. Â

Indian Naan Bread Pizzas Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 gluten free naan breads
- 4 tbsp mango chutney
Falafels
- 1 can chickpeas drained and rinsed
- 3 cloves garlic diced
- ½ small red onion roughly chopped
- 1 tbsp lentil flour or any other GF alternative
- Pinch chilli flakes
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tbsp turmeric
Roasted chickpeas
- 1 can chickpeas drained and rinsed
- Dash olive oil
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp turmeric
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 200c.
-
While the oven is heating up, add all of the ingredients from the falafel section to a food processor and process until the mix is sticking together well but not too sticky to the touch. You can either process them to be completely smooth or pulse a few times to leave some more texture.
-
Take approximately a tablespoon of the mix and roll it into a ball with your hands. Repeat until you’re out of falafel mix, you should end up with about 12 small falafel balls.
-
Add the other can of drained and rinsed chickpeas to a mixing bowl and toss with the oil and spices until they’re evenly coated.
-
Once the chickpeas are coated, add the chickpeas and the falafels to a baking tray (you’ll likely need more than one) and place in the centre of the oven for roughly 25 minutes until the chickpeas are crispy and the falafels are warm all the way through.
-
Add the naan breads to the oven for the final 6-7 minutes of their cooking time, or as per packet instructions if yours say something different!
-
Once the naan breads and chickpea products are ready, add one heaped tbsp of mango chutney to each naan and spread evenly across the top, then add your roasted chickpeas and falafels.
Serve and enjoy!
Do you like the sound of this naan bread pizza recipe? Not quite your average fakeaway recipe, but kind of one of sorts. How do you feel about recipes like this one that blend different cuisines? Â
Until tomorrow,Â

Con8ng from South Africa where so much of the food culture has already been blended, as long as it tastes great I have no problem with it! This sounds very interesting, we love our curries and naan breads.
I love a good lazy meal! This looks like a great recipe, I’ve done easy “pizza” with pita bread, tomato sauce, cheese etc, but this is a fun take!
I’m Indian and have quite some naan so it’s wonderful that you shared a vegan alternative! Thanks for sharing.
Oh, this just sounds delicious, and perfect if you are not really feeling having a full-on curry! Mago chutney is one of my favs, so I would definitely be putting loads of this on
I will have to try your falafel recipe, as I have a love-hate relationship with them. Have had some that are just too dry and stodgy, but yours look really nice!
Thanks for sharing!
