I know, I know, a balsamic vinaigrette recipe is pretty standard. We’ve all had one before. The recipe is basic. But that’s sort of the point. As I mentioned in my post about the health benefits of certain oils last week, olive oil doesn’t offer much in the way of omegas. Walnut oil on the other hand does, this walnut oil balsamic vinaigrette recipe shows how you can adapt a simple recipe to get the most from it in terms of health benefits.
I know a regular balsamic vinaigrette is great for a simple salad because it uses regular pantry ingredients that the majority of people own and walnut oil isn’t exactly a staple in a lot of homes. For those not that familiar with it, it’s rich in both omega 3 and 6, it is pricier than some other oils, but it’s not ridiculously expensive, especially if you’re only using a small amount for things like dressings. For reference, the bottle I’m using is £2 for 250ml, and I’m using 3 tablespoons in this recipe (45ml). So, the oil would be £0.06 per serving.
Nutritional Information
I’ve touched on the omega content, but each serving of this recipe provides 97% of the RDA of omega 3 and 45% of the RDA of omega 6. As well as just under 10% of your daily vitamin c from the lemon juice alone. In terms of the omega 3, you will need more than the recommended amount if you’re eating strictly plant based sources of omega 3 due to the way ALAs are converted.
More information about plant sources of omega 3 here.

Walnut Oil Balsamic Vinaigrette Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp walnut oil
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- Juice of one lemon
- Black pepper to taste
- 1 clove minced garlic
Instructions
-
Combine the walnut oil, lemon juice and balsamic in a jam jar or other container with a good-sealing lid. Add a pinch of salt (optional) and a few grinds of black pepper and the minced garlic clove. Screw on the lid and shake vigorously.
Serve and enjoy!
-
Store any leftovers in the fridge, shake again before use. If you wish to make a larger or smaller batch, simply stick to a rough three parts oil to one part balsamic ratio.
Do you like simple vinaigrette dressings? How do you feel about switching the traditional olive oil for some walnut oil?
Until next time,

I really appreciate a good vinaigrette dressing and this one sounds wonderful! I had no idea that walnut oil was so high in Omega fatty acids. I’m definitely going to add this to my pantry. Thanks for sharing!
This was so intersting! I’ve recently been changing my diet a lot and wanting to incorporate some more salads but didn’t realise that different oils and vinaigrette would have different benefits! I think I’ll be adding this on the list to try as it sounds nice.
