You may recall that last month I was getting very excited about a new foundation I was trying. I posted my first impressions almost instantly after trying it because I was so hyped about the new shades. A month has passed and it’s time for my XX Revolution Glow Foundation review, in the new lightest shade. My first impressions were mainly focused on how excited I was about the new shades so we’re going to be focusing more on the formula and wear time in this one.
Brand overview
XX Revolution is the latest branch of the Revolution brand, with a slightly higher premium high street price point. The brand is cruelty free with many products being vegan.

Product overview
This foundation comes with slightly less product than average at 27ml, it comes in a frosted glass bottle with a pump and an impressive 55 shades, retailing at £15. Both the XX Glow and Matte formulas are vegan friendly (all shades).
Shade range
As I said, this product comes in 55 shades. I have the new palest shade, 0.05. This shade is described as being for the fairest skin with yellow undertones; my skin is a very fair warm olive. So, I have major appreciation for brands that make fair shades with warmer undertones rather than just fair pinks.

My only complaint about the shade range is that it doesn’t come in a pure white for mixing purposes. The lightest shade is pretty much perfect for my skin, but I’m not the palest person on earth so they could definitely go lighter.
Application
I mentioned in my first impressions that I didn’t like how this looked with a brush. Since then I’ve tried it with several different brushes and can confirm that this foundation only looks good with a sponge. I’m yet to find a brush that doesn’t make it look either dry, patchy or both.
Coverage
This is a fairly full coverage foundation. For me, this would definitely be more of a night out foundation than a daily wear. It’s too thick to apply in a light, sheer way, but I did try to mix it with a light gel moisturiser and it worked well as a tinted moisturiser applied this way.
Wear
Just after I picked this up, we experienced a few really hot days here in the UK. Full coverage is definitely not my idea if fun in the heat, but I tried this just to see how it would hold up. It looked great, until it didn’t. Under normal circumstances, I can comfortably get 11-12 hours out of this before it shows any sign of wear at all. In the heat, this lasted about 5 hours looking freshly applied, then it started to look very heavy very quickly. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it in the heat, but that applies to any fuller coverage foundation.
On dry skin
Despite this being the glow formula, this isn’t particularly dewy, more so a soft glow. It might be dewy on oilier skin, but it looks more like a natural satin on mine. It isn’t overly matte or dry though, so I’d still consider this one to be dry skin friendly. But it also doesn’t contain shimmer – it’s a major pet peeve when ‘glowy’ foundations are actually just matte formulas with glitter in them.
Overall
I’m still very impressed with this one after about 20 wears. I’ll likely use it less going forward as it’s fuller coverage than I typically opt for daily, but I can easily see it becoming my first choice for evenings or events. It’s got great coverage without looking too heavy, as long as you use a sponge. The finish is perfect for my skin, soft satin without being greasy or drying. And let’s take another monent to appreciate the shade range expansion. And it’s from a more affordable brand too, albeit more expensive than the average Revolution product.
Pros:
- Shade range
- Good wear time
- Dry skin friendly
- Affordable price point
- Vegan friendly
- Nice packaging, with a pump
Cons:
- Could still be a lighter shade or two, or at least a white.
- Could easily look heavy if applied incorrectly
- …that’s it. I could add that it’s a bit too full coverage, but that’s obviously a very personal preference.
Would I repurchase?
I think so! This is the only foundation I own with this much coverage that’s actually the colour of my skin, and not too drying. Obviously, I’ve been testing this during lockdown and haven’t been further than Sainsbury’s wearing it, so I’ll have to wear it more when I’m actually facing the world again and see what my thoughts are at that point. But, for now, I can’t see any reason why I wouldn’t want to repurchase when the time comes.

Lots of pro’s for this foundation then! It looks pretty good to be fair, and I’m more than happy to see a brand that does very light foundation, I often struggle to find something for my skin colour because I’m so pale. It’s a great price too! Might have to give this one a go.

This looks great. I like that its more of a soft-glow because for me, dewy foundations always just look more like I’m oily (which my skin normally isn’t) rather than glowy!

I’ve never tried this brand before. I appreciate you highlighting that they are cruelty free and that these products are vegan. My skin is fair with yellow undertones as well and I’ve always had trouble finding products. I actually gave up for a few years on finding anything! I’m excited to read about an option that might actually work for me!
I absolutely love Revolution but I’m not overly keen on their foundations so far I’ve only tried a couple but the ones I’ve tried have been hit and miss. I’m keen to try this one out though!, there seems to be lots of positives to it. How cute is the packaging also!?xx

I love that this is not too drying; there is nothing worse then feeling make-up leeching the water from my skin. I love the bottle this comes in, and that it has so many shades! I am sure I can find the perfect tone for my skin.

Ooh I saw this today in superdrug and was tempted to pick it up but I ended up not getting it! Seems like you’ve had a good experience with it though!
It’s nice that this could be sheered out if wanted, as I find that full coverage just doesn’t work for my dry skin! I also know the pain of only being able to use a sponge to blend out foundations – brushes always accentuate my dry patches x

it’s great it’s a good shade for you 🙂 It’s a shame it doesn’t last long in the heat! I only really wear makeup to the office here so it needs to last as the commute can be so hot and humid in the summer, haha! 🙂 Haven’t found the perfect one but I’m happy with what I have!
