When I saw on Instagram that this product was launching, I as so excited. The hype around the Revolution Conceal & Define Concealer was huge – but it didn’t really work for my dry skin. When I saw that they were launching a sister version, the Revolution Conceal & Hydrate Concealer, I had two main thoughts. Number 1 was ‘I need that right now’ and the second one was ‘is this going to be a Too Faced Born This Way Dupe?’ I knew I wanted to do a Revolution Conceal & Hydrate Concealer review, but I also wanted to talk about it about three seconds after I got it, so these are my first impressions compared to the Too Faced one and I’ll update you with a full review in a few weeks.
Suggested Post: Too Faced Born This Way Super Coverage Concealer Review
Product Overview
Unlike Conceal & Define, this one only comes in the larger size, so it’s £7 for 13g of product, or 0.45oz. It comes in 50 shades, of which I bought the lightest, C0.01. The formula is both cruelty free and vegan friendly.
Product Claims
It claims to be a lightweight finish, suitable for everyone and offers all day hydration.
Designed for drier skin, the sheer, satin finish won’t settle into fine lines, and the doe foot applicator allows for a smooth, delicate application.
But it also claims to be medium to full coverage so I’m not sure what they mean by sheer.
Revolution Conceal & Hydrate Concealer Review
Shades
As I mentioned, this comes in 50 shades, and I bought the lightest one. Just to clarify, the lightest shade is technically C0, a pure white, but you know what I mean.
I’m a little bit disappointed in the shade range. 50 shades is incredible, but I think they could have gone lighter. When I first swatched it on the back of my hand, I was shocked at how close it was to my skin colour, especially as my hands are the darkest part of me.

Application
I opted to use a combination of my fingers and a small rounded brush for this. It applies very smoothly, despite not being my favourite texture. As I have very dry skin under my eyes, I like my concealers to be quite fluid as I apply them. This formula feels quick thick, almost stretchy as I blended it out. But it did blend well and didn’t cling to any drier areas under my eyes. It did look a little heavy around my nose due to the thicker texture, but not too bad.
Coverage and Wear
I’d definitely agree that this a fuller end of medium coverage concealer. To test this to its full potential, I wore a very light foundation. It’s that time of the month and my skin is looking a bit red and blotchy. In terms of dark circles, I’ve never found anything that totally covers mine. I have the deep blue veiny kind which really pop in contrast to my skin tone. This concealer did a really good job of covering the bulk, they’re visible when I tilt my head in a certain light, but disappear when looking straight on. I have a small spot near the edge of my nose and it took the redness away with one layer, but would have needed a second to fully cover.
When it comes to wear, I’m on the fence right now. Even though it went on smoothly, when I looked in the mirror an hour later, it looked awful. The heaviness gathered around my lines, the dry patch around my nose was far more prominent. Not wanting to give up, I picked up my brush again and gave my face a few taps over the problem areas to smooth everything out again. And it did smooth out well. This concealer seemed to dry down to a satin/ matte/ dry-touch finish on its own. So, I was worried the product was going to drag as I attempted to smooth it, but it didn’t. But give it another hour or two and it started to gather again.
It’s worth noting that I never set my concealer because my under eye area is so dry. However, I think this one might need it to stop the product gathering. But it dries down to a satin/ matte finish, so it would have to be the smallest amount of powder ever if you have dry skin.
Please ignore the wet hair and the fact I look so washed out.

Is Revolution Conceal & Hydrate a Born This Way Dupe?

So, I wanted to know if this was going to be a Too Faced dupe for a reason, the Born This Way concealer is my favourite. It comes in two formulas – naturally radiant and super coverage. Naturally radiant is a lighter coverage, but blends beautifully and comes in extremely pale shades. Super coverage has….more coverage…but it comes in shades that match the foundation. As a result, the lightest shade is darker than my skin. I was hoping this would be a similar formula because I knew the shade range of this product was better.
As you can see from the swatches, the Too Faced one is considerably darker than the Revolution ones. I really wanted to do a wear test and use one on one side of my face and the other on the other side. I’m sure this photo tells you why that wasn’t really an option.

Centre: Revolution Conceal & Hydrate C0.01
Bottom: Too Faced Born This Way Super Coverage Swan
Instead, let’s do a little compare and contrast on some key areas:
Shade – Revolution are a million times better here.
Coverage – Very similar, but I think the Revolution may be ever so slightly better.
Wear – Unfortunately, unless I try the Revolution with different brushes/ products and it sits better, the Too Faced is far better in this department.
Hydrating– As both are designed for dry skin, I thought I’d add this. The Too Faced one stays dewy. I know some people won’t like that, but it’s definitely a more hydrating formula than this one.
Overall
I had such high hopes for this concealer but I’m not blown away by it so far. I’m hoping that if I can play around with different products, it will wear better with other things. As of right now, not a fan. I think if you had oily skin and wanted something dewy, this would be good. And if you have normal to slightly dry skin and have no issues setting it, this would also work. But for those of you with very dry skin, I’m not sure if this is a viable option.
Pros:
- Shade range
- Vegan
- Price per ml is great
Cons:
- Too heavy for my skin
- Not that hydrating for a hydrating formula
Would I repurchase?
At this point, sadly not. As I said, I’m going to keep trying this with a few other things and see if it works better with other products, but not currently.
Have you tried this concealer or are you planning on picking it up? Did it work better on your skin?
Until next time,
Sophie
Too bad it’s not a dupe for the Too Faced, it would’ve been great! Still seems like a solid product though

I’ve always heard good things about Too faced and it’s seems that other products can’t compete too. Thanks for sharing.
Aww I got excited when I saw that they were releasing a “hydrating” formula. I’m on the look out for a medium-full coverage concealer that works well for dry skin types.
It’s a shame it isn’t very hydrating and doesn’t perform well. I don’t think I’ll be picking this up so thank you for your review!
it is a shame the concealer did not live up to expectations. Usually revolution does very goos makeup. I mean, i just know about lipsticks and palettes as i don’t really wear foundation. But if it’s way cheaper than too faced…
Concealer is a product I am never without but I prefer more of a sheer, natural finish and this product sounds too heavy for me. Love the fact it comes in 50 shades though x

I have oily skin so this product might well work for me. One I’ve been using lately (and loving) is Maybelline’s Instant Anti Age Eraser Concealer, which goes on like a dream and offers a kind of coverage I’ve never had before. It’s quite moist so might work for you but I don’t know what their lightest shade is like! Lisa X
I was hoping a lot more for this Concealer even though I’ve got quite oily skin and the first Conceal and define works good for me I thought this new one would be better for people with dry skin! X
I definitely want to give this a try although I have never tried too faced so wouldn’t have a point of comparison! x

Great post! This is a really excellent review that covers a lot of ground for those of us who would be looking to compare and contrast these two products. I really appreciate that you used the Too Faced for a direct comparison—that was really helpful to see the key differences. It’s too bad that Revolution didn’t end up being something you’d like to repurchase! Anyway, thank you for sharing.
I’ve tried this myself and it can be quite greasy but for the price it definitely does the job! Lovely post Hun x

I’ve used the conceal and define concealer before. I thought it worked well for me but my skin is more normal/combo. It’s disappointing that the dry skin formula isn’t as good.

Thanks for this in-depth comparison. I personally don’t like anything too heavy, so while I was originally curious about this, reading through your review I’m leaning more towards the idea that it’s simply not worth my time…
I’m not so big when it comes to makeup, I must confess that I haven’t tried anything from Too Faced yet. And now that I’m exploring the makeup world, I want to try this since I have very oily skin. Too bad it didn’t sit too well for you. Anyway, thank you for this review, might want to check it out if it’s available here where I live.

it’s a shame this product wasn’t as great as you hoped it would be and it doesn’t stay put all day!
Hope that your week has been a good one and you have a nice weekend ahead of you 🙂

Sorry to hear this didn’t work out for you. Btw, you have lovely skin, so pretty. Thanks for the honest review 🙂

I’ve tried their other concealer but not the new ‘hydrating’ one! What a letdown that it’s not as hydrating as it makes out in the name. Glad I read this review as I’m not sure I’ll be purchasing it from now on. Thank you for being so honest xx
I REALLY want to try this concealer! I’m in love with conceal and define in every way but I have been looking for something a tad more dewy and light as my skin is getting drier and I just don’t like matte products that much anymore. The only thing this review has done is make me want to try the Too Faced one HA. I expect I’ll try the Revolution conceal and hydrate when I’ve ran out of my stock of the conceal and defines I have saved up from the 3 for 2 deal in my drawers…

I’ve been looking for a new concealer and foundation as it goes

Thank you for reviewing this product! I have dry skin as well, especially after I shower. I have been looking for something to put on after the shower before work, but I haven’t had any luck…
it still hasn’t launched in my country yet but I am hoping it better work for Oily skin. This looks quite a peachy undertone on your hand thou as compared to too faced. I hope it works for my skin.
Oh man, I can relate to you about concealers not being compatible with your skin @__@. My mood with Shiseido’s version. It is a bummer that your skin looked a bit red, but at least it had stronger coverage overall. At least you got to try out to see how the product ended up!

Great post
I’ve used it ❣
I had high hopes for this product as I suffer from dry skin, but I don’t like anything too heavy either. 🙁
Shame it didn’t work for you, it looked really promising!! x
It’s great that this is vegan but a shame it didn’t work well for you. Luckily I don’t have dry skin on my face – from your posts, it seems like finding foundations and concealers that work with dry skin can be very tricky!
Such a thorough review – sad it didn’t turn out to be a good dupe though x
I tried the original and hated it – I might have to skip this too x
I love how detailed your beauty reviews are! I’ve seen this about loads but never picked it up. Not sure it would work well with my skin xx

That’s a pity it wasn’t a dupe. Have you ever tried the Catrice concealer? I swear by it.
I have oily skin so I don’t think that this would work for me, but I probably wouldn’t try it because I rarely wear things like concealer anyways goes to waste.
