This mocha smoothie bowl recipe came about from a combination of desperation and experimentation. I was going to make my Nutella smoothie bowl recipe one morning and realised that I didnโt have any hazelnut milk, and wondered what I could make that hit the same spot, and I decided to give this recipe a try.ย ย

Okay, the lack of hazelnut milk was the desperation, but whereโs the experimentation?
I love coffee, and consume far too much of it. I drink mine black and strong, itโs truly the coffee taste that I love, no added frills. But I hate anything coffee flavoured โ ice cream, tiramisu, coffee cake, all of it. I also donโt like iced coffee.
So, I decided it would be completely logical to make something iced and coffee flavoured for breakfast one morning to see if I could get on board. It turns out iced mocha is actually a great combination. Or at least it is for a smoothie bowl, I’m yet to test this theory in liquid form.
Either way โ this was a great breakfast choice, and I think thereโs a pretty good chance that you like things that are cold and coffee flavoured if youโre reading this, so you should definitely try it.

Before we get into the recipe, do any of you love coffee but not coffee flavoured things, or vice versa maybe? I know it’s a bit strange…

Mocha Smoothie Bowl Recipe
A thick and creamy mocha smoothie bowl recipe, creamy chocolate, like dessert for breakfast, with a little caffeine boost to get you going first thing on a morning.

I’ve used avocado here, as I do in the vast majority of my smoothie recipes, to make the texture as creamy as possible. I say this every single time, but I promise you, you cannot in any way taste the avocado in this recipe. It’s purely for texture.
The ingredients list below mentions chocolate or vanilla protein powder, for reference, my go-to is the vanilla vegan blend from Bulk Powders (not an ad, or aff, just my favourite vegan protein).
This recipe is gluten free, dairy free, and vegan. It can be nut free and soy free depending on your choice of dairy alternatives.

Mocha Smoothie Bowl Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 scoop vegan protein powder chocolate or vanilla
- ยฝ – ยพ large frozen avocado
- 1 tbsp instant coffee
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 cup non-dairy milk
- 2 tbsp vegan Greek yoghurt
Instructions
-
Add all ingredients to a blender and mix until smooth. To make the powders blend a little easier and ensure they donโt stick, add the liquids first, then the frozen avocado, then the powders.
-
Transfer to a bowl and add your favourite toppings.
Serve and enjoy!
How do you feel about coffee flavoured things? Please tell me I’m not alone here.
Until tomorrow,
Sophie
I’m not a coffee fan in any shape or form – liquid or otherwise, aha. I love that your desperate attempts turn into something you really got on board with – mine will probably be inedible. Although not a coffee person, this does look good!
Ooh now this sounds like my kinda smoothie! I’ll have to try it out!

I LOVE mocha’s so this breakfast is definitely something I could get on board with. I love how you’ve used Avocado in here, I’m surprised it doesn’t add a flavour to it!
Great idea making a mocha smoothie bowl! I love coffee (and chocolate) so making something healthy that has these flavors is perfect. I’m saving this for later, thanks.
I’m a lot like you, I love coffee, but not coffee flavoured stuff. This however, sounds awesome!! Even better it’s good for you! Thanks for sharing all these yummy and healthy recipes! I can’t wait to try it.
Love the sound of this recipe! Thank you for sharing this! I really like mochas (as long as the coffee isn’t too overpowering) so this sounds so delicious!
Oh wow this really sounds & looks incredible! A ‘dessert’ for breakfast is a dream xx
I do love things cold and flavored, so this mocha smoothie mix sounds like the perfect way to add extra oomph to a bowl of granola with plenty of fresh berries! It also doubles in the place of a cup of coffee. ๐
This looks so good although I confess I’m not a fan of coffee or coffee flavour sorry! Still looks tasty though! ๐
Hope you are having a good week ๐
