Welcome to month two of plant sourced, the theme this month isโฆprotein again. Let me explain; I know I said originally that there would be a different theme each month. However, I also said last month that because protein is such a big one, Iโd likelyย revisitย it later in the year. But when I started to think about it, as February is a shorterย monthย weโd be one post short on a new category anyway. As I only included high protein main meals in my January recipes, it makes sense for February to be dedicated to higher protein vegan breakfast recipes, starting with this healthyย nutellaย smoothie bowl recipe. Yes, healthy andย nutellaย in the same sentence.ย
Iโve spoken about my addiction love for vanilla soy milk a lot. And while I know it isnโt the healthiest option, it is by far the nicest. But Iโve been trying to cut back a little, so I thought Iโd try a sweeter nut milk, enter hazelnut milk. Nutrition wise, hazelnut milk is very similar to almond milk, but is naturally sweeter. While vanilla soy still reigns supreme, this is proving to be a good alternative for me.ย ย
Recipe wiseย Iย was thinking of what hazelnut works well with, which got me thinking aboutย nutella. Hazelnut, chocolate and a creamy texture โ sounds like a perfect blend for a smoothie bowl.ย

Protein Sourcesย
The bulk of the protein in this recipe obviously comes from the protein powder but I opted for toppings that contain a smaller amount of protein from whole foods too. My protein powder of choice was this one from Bulk Powders which contains 23g protein per serving. The bowl in total without toppings contains 32g of protein and 374kcal.ย ย
Nutritionย ย
I tried to keep this bowl really balanced in terms of protein sources and healthy fats. The smoothie itself has frozen avocado in it as a healthy fat source and to make it creamy in texture. I promise you cannot taste the avocado, promise. And Iโve added nuts, seeds and a nutty granola as toppings which are all healthy fats as well as adding a few extra grams of protein.ย ย
ย
All in, including the toppings this bowl provides your full RDA of omega 3, 38 grams of protein, 98% of the RDA of vitamin K, 50% of the RDA vitamin E and 17g fibre (550kcal).ย
Healthy Nutella Smoothie Bowl Recipeย
A healthy bowl ofย chocolately, creamy, nutty goodness. Thanks to the avocado this bowl comes out as creamy as soft serve ice cream, perfect for those of you with a sweet tooth.ย ย
This recipe is gluten free, dairy free and vegan. It does contain soy and nuts.ย ย

Healthy Nutella Smoothie Bowl Recipe
Ingredients
- ยฝ a medium avocado cubed & frozen
- 1 heaped tbsp raw cacao/ cocoa powder
- ยฝ cup hazelnut milk
- ยฝ cup chocolate soy milk or other non-dairy chocolate milk
- 1 scoop chocolate or vanilla vegan protein powder
Toppings (Optional)
- Almonds
- Chocolate chips
- Chia seeds
- Sprinkle of granola
Instructions
-
Add all smoothie bowl ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. You want your avocado cubes to be as small as possible to ensure you have no chunks when you blend it. Depending on your blender, you may need to scrape the sides down a couple of times before the avocado is fully blended.
-
Once blended, smooth and creamy, transfer to a bowl then add your toppings before serving.
Serve and enjoy!

Do you like sweeter options for breakfast or is aย nutellaย smoothie bowl too rich for first thing on a morning?ย ย
Until next time,ย
Sophieย
Yum!! This sounds so good and nutritious. I’ve been making overnight oats using cocoa powder lately and apple but, I think I might need to try this recipe next. Thank you for sharing.

That looks amazing. I am 100% in favour of sweet things for breakfast – if pancakes weren’t such a faff I’d eat them every morning I think!
I should not be reading this on an empty stomach! Looks delish, I will certainly be trying this.
Thank you for sharing!

If something has Nutella in it then sign me up! Itโs just the best and I would have it all the time if I could. This looks amazing I love the added chocolate chips too! Bet itโs super yummy x
Confession: I’ve honestly never tried Nutella despite the fact that everyone seems to be in love with it. I might have to make a point of changing that yet… lol
This looks yummy! I usually only have nutella every few days but this one makes me want to eat it for breakfast! I love how this recipe is quick and easy. Lovely post, thanks for sharing โก

This could not come at a more perfect time omg!! I’ve been thinking recently about how I should go about adding avocado to smoothies or smoothie bowls because I’m trying to be mindful about having each macro represented in my meals because I usually forget the healthy fats :’) As healthy as unsweetened almond milk is (although apparently almond milk is problematic now??), it’s not as sweet as I’d like, so sweetened coconut milk has become my go-to. Oops. xx
Wow, this looks absolutely delicious! I think the healthiness is just an added perk. Thanks for sharing!
Oh my goodness this looks so amazing! Thanks for sharing this recipe. I will definitely have to try this out!
Ooooh this looks delicious! definitely going to try.
Oh my God YES this is my sort of recipe. Although I don’t really have sweet things for breakfast, this would make a great snack x
I’ve saved this to make this soon! I’m living in South Korea where breakfast foods are very expensive so I’m looking for alternatives to the standard toast/cereal breakfast options. This looks fab! Vegan and healthy. I’m not vegan but I’m vegetarian and I don’t drink cow’s milk so this really is perfect for me. Thanks for sharing!
