January Favourites

Hey everyone, today we’re chatting about my January favourites. You may have noticed I don’t usually do monthly favourites. As someone who primarily talks about skincare, monthly favourites don’t really fit. There isn’t enough variation and to truly know if you love something new you have to try it for at least a few weeks anyway. And before we get into it, as you can see by the title, I’m still trying to figure out a series name.

Having said that, January this year was different. I got new beauty storage at the beginning of the month, which meant reorganising my stuff and discovering a few old gems I’d forgotten about as well as trying a few new things too. And the other thing, I’m a beauty hoarder. I keep that product I only use every couple of months ‘just in case’ all the time. So naturally when I was clearing out my stuff and reorganising my ‘I’ll just try this a few more times’ pile was way bigger than my bin pile.

Masks

I’m going to fully explain why January is the month of sleep deprivation in tomorrow’s post, but my sleep deprived soul loved a freshen up with a sheet mask in January. I did a mini review of the eye gels in this post, so I won’t repeat myself, just know they feel glorious and you need them in your life.

January Favourites

Sarah Chapman Ultra Recovery Booster

I feel like I’m cheating a bit here because I only got this half way through January. But it’s the best product I’ve bought in a really long time. Maybe ever. Yes, I just said this is possibly the best thing I’ve ever bought. Bold statement. Now this stuff won’t be for everyone, and it is expensive, but I’ve needed a product like this since I was about 15.

The texture is pretty gross, it’ thick and milky and I imagine it could easily get clogged up in the little pipette (I tried really hard to think of negatives) but it’s so soothing. It contains a blend of oils, as well as colloidal oatmeal. It makes my skin feel less tight in seconds, it calms redness and my skin always feels healthy the next morning when I’ve used this. I’m so obsessed with it, I haven’t wanted to use anything else and I’m supposed to be testing new products, so this is becoming a problem.

The second ingredient is also glycerin which means it has a slightly tacky feel to it and works beautifully under makeup if used as a primer. Don’t buy this just to use as a primer.

 January Favourites

The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer

Speaking of primer, this one caught me by surprise. This was in my ‘I’ll just try it a few more times’ pile and it turns out I really liked it. I thought I hated it when I first used it last year (another post on that later) which confused me slightly. It’s nice and smoothing over some of my drier patches with more texture. As a result, I’ve been able to use a couple of my more matte foundations that are usually shelved away until around late April/ early May so that’s obviously a winner.

 January Favourites

Skyn Iceland Arctic Facial Oil

This is another one for dry skin related issues (see a theme occurring here), I touched upon this briefly in my best new additions of 2017 post. When I got this oil I thought it was good but it wasn’t blowing me away compared to the others I already owned. Turns out this is the best oil I own for mixing with foundations. I don’t know what makes this one so special, but it blends beautifully with foundation. It doesn’t seem to clog pores when mixed with another product, which some of my others do. I tried it with Fenty, that was optimistic, it was still a fail.

January Favourites

And that’s it, my top five January favourites. What were you loving last month?

Coming up tomorrow: get healthy with me. And an explanation about my tragic sleeping pattern.

I’ll see you tomorrow,

Sophie

  1. I always learn so much from reading your posts. I’m especially keen on trying sheet masks.
I do have a question. Do you think there’s sense in using sheet masks along with monthly facials and how many days apart should I do them?

    1. Aw thank you! I love that you’re actually finding the information useful. You could definitely use them alongside a facial. I’d wait a week or so after a facial to use one just because your skin is probably feeling so good after the treatment I think you’d be wasting the mask if you used them so close together. I do a sheet mask maybe once a week and I see visible results for 2-3 days after use. Some people use them daily though! x

  2. I’ve heard so many amazing things about The Ordinary – I have one product, which I haven’t really used (cos I don’t really know what to do with it haha) which I won but I love the sound of them. I’m so happy to hear you’re daily blogging this month! Can’t wait to read more from you <3

  3. This month I have gone back to loving the “simple” skincare system and my skin has really thanked me for it! A lovely post with lots of new products I now want to try!

  4. Oh gosh that Sarah Chapman product sounds right up my street, the consistency actually sounds really appealing to me haha! I’m also desperate to try some of The Ordinarys products but I have so much skincare stacked up waiting to be tested at the moment, I can’t justify it yet… Someday!!

  5. I wouldn’t know where to start if I did a monthly favourites so I’m always amazed when people do these type of posts! I love a good mask – I haven’t done one in ages, and remembering what you said about them in your other post – I’ll have to definitely look into them ones!

  6. The ordinary product sounds so good, think I’ll be looking out for it next time I go shopping. I always end up re evaluating my skin care products after reading your posts and I’m very intrigued to read about this sleepless month tomorrow!

  7. Yes! I love masks and I’d try anything. Also the brand from Iceland is amazing, I regretted not buying more creams when I was visiting Iceland, especially the ones made at the Blue Lagoon.

  8. Lol I think Febmas sounds sort of cute tehe. I knew something for Sarah Chapman would be in this list lol, you pretty much love her stuff so I’m glad you ended up liking the primer and Skyn Iceland is on the top of my list to try. Thanks for sharing, already awaiting next posts
