I Reviewed It, Do I Still Use It? #2

Hi guys, you may remember that a few months ago I did a post looking back on all of my previous reviews and talked about whether I still liked them and use them. I asked if that was something you’d like to see me do as a series a few times a year, and you said yes! I like to keep my promises, so here is the next installment, I reviewed it, do I still use it #2.

These posts are going to be in chronological order, not in any order of product preference. All original reviews will be linked if anyone wants more detail on a particular product.

Ren Ready Steady Glow*

Original review here.

ren ready steady glow

This was the first post I did after my last ‘reviewed it’ post, so I’ve had this a little while now. This is an acid, daily use, exfoliating toner. At the time I said I thought it was great. My sensitive skin was dealing with it really well and I was obsessed with the packaging (the pump is amazing). I said in my review I would 100% be repurchasing.

Not much has changed. I’m not currently using this daily, just because I like to mix my skincare up, especially exfoliating products. But I do still use it at least twice a week (unless I’ve used another strong exfoliator and I’m giving my skin an acid break).

As for repurchasing, I actually won another one of these in a Ren giveaway, so I have two right now. I will repurchase eventually, but I’m guessing it will be a very long time before I run out.

Revolution Fast Base Foundation Stick  *

I gave this a fairly average review at the time. I wasn’t that excited about it. It was good for the money but I wasn’t blown away by any stretch. To be honest, I haven’t really used this much since I reviewed it, maybe once or twice. I don’t think it’s a bad product, but when you have a drawer full of products you love, the okay one is never going to be your first choice. I’m sure I’ll use it occasionally, but I’m pretty sure I won’t be buying this again. Get the pro drops*. I still use those all the time and for the extra £2, I think they’re way better.

XO Balm *

It almost seems unfair to mention this now. I was really excited to get proper use out of this in winter when my skin was really dry and I could get all the benefits. It’s only just starting to get colder, so my time to use it is…now. I do still like this on very dry patches, and a little goes a very long way, so I think it’s excellent value for money*, but I haven’t used it to its full potential yet.

*Although I was sent this product. I would buy it for myself, but this is another one that’s going to last quite a long time.

Too Faced Born This Way Super Coverage Concealer

Original review here.

too faced born this way super coverage concealer

I was really excited about this one. As someone who can’t use Shape Time because my under eyes are dry, prone to flaking and eat eye cream like it’s water, the thought of a similar product that was more hydrating was very appealing.

Don’t get me wrong here, I really like this product still and I’m very glad I picked it up, but I haven’t reached for this as much as I thought. After playing around with this, with different foundations, I realised I didn’t like it with medium coverage foundations. I don’t know why either, I just don’t think it sits right.

With really light coverage bases, this looks amazing. Your skin still looks fresh but the bits that you need hidden look flawless. Likewise, if you like heavy, fully glam looks, this blends into full coverage like an absolute dream. But most of my favourites are a medium (ish) coverage so I’m not reaching for this all the time. It’s my first choice if I’m wearing something really light, or fuller coverage still. I will repurchase for those looks when I eventually run out, but this isn’t a daily go-to for me.

I’m going to say this once more to be 100% certain I’m not misunderstood, I really do like this, just not for everyday use.

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation

Original review here.

too faced born this way foundation

I went Too Faced crazy for my birthday this year. I’ve used it a fair bit in the couple of months I’ve had it and I like it a lot. I picked up four new foundations around the time of my birthday, so I haven’t used this a tonne, just because I’ve been trying to give them all a fair chance. This is the most hydrating of the ones I picked up and can see myself reaching for this more over the next few months as the mattes get pushed to the back of my drawer.

In my review, I said I liked the way it sat on the skin and that it could be blended well with a brush or sponge. My only big concern was the colour was too dark. I stand by all of that, it really does feel weightless on the skin and blends beautifully.

As I mentioned in my original review, they launched a lighter shade (I have Swan, they released Cloud) and I said I might get that one. If I find myself picking this up in autumn as it gets colder, I will get this in Cloud to use over winter.

Revolution Skincare*

Original review here.

I only reviewed this in September, so these items are still fairly new to my collection. Originally, I compared them to The Ordinary, who are probably the best known brand for active ingredient based budget skincare. Anyone who read that post will know that despite not being a fan of The Ordinary, I was really enjoying using these products.

Hyaluronic Acid Serum*

I’m still using this very regularly, at least a few times a week. It’s just as good as my higher end ones for most things. I’ll opt for something else if my skin is feeling really tight, but I still really like this. In fact, I like it so much that I’m including one in my giveaway! There are still a few days left in that if you’d like to enter here

Lactic Acid 5% + HA*

I’m still enjoying this too! Lactic acid is my favourite acid for exfoliation, so I have quite a few lactic acid products. As a result, I’m not reaching for this all the time, but it’s got a secure spot in my product rotation.

Caffeine Solution + HA*

Now, I wasn’t that keen on this when I first reviewed it. It has similar ingredients to those typically found in an under eye rollerball, but without the nice cooling sensation of the rollerball. It felt pretty redundant applied directly under the eyes and couldn’t really see myself using it much.

However, it’s in the same kind of bottle as a regular serum. One day, I decided to try applying it all over my face. Caffeine is supposed to be cooling and depuffing, so it’s good for sleep deprived eyes. My face is prone to puffiness. Whether that’s time of the month related, when I’m a bit dehydrated, or just tired, I see hamster cheeks start to appear.  I actually preferred this on my face. I’m not saying it magically takes all of my puffiness away, but I think it does help a bit. As an eye serum, I don’t rate this at all. But I would repurchase this to use all over my face.

That’s it for this one! A little roundup of the beauty reviews I’ve posted in the last few months. Are you guys still liking this series? If yes, please let me know and I’ll keep them coming next year. Next year, that’s…scary.

Until next time,

  1. This is such a great post idea! I always wonder if people actually Cath in using the products they review. I need to try the REN Ready Steady Glow, sounds like such a great product! Great post xx

  2. This is such a good idea for a beauty post. I love that you’re a REN fan, I have a few products I’m trialling at the moment and my expectations are high! I remember your comparison of Revolution vs. the Ordinary too, and Revolution went in my wishlist. Even more so as the rollerball serum has extra uses, haha. Fab round up, Sophie 🙂 xx

  3. This is a great round up Sophie, I remember a lot of these from your original reviews. The XO Balm sounds like the perfect product for this time of year as it’s getting colder. I like the sound of the Too Faced foundation, it’s great that it’s hydrating and they have now released a lighter shade. Great post! <3 xx

  4. I’m loving this series! It’s good to see if you still use the products a few months on, I review so much on my blog that I might do one of these myself if you don’t mind!

  5. great post sophie! i’m really gonna have to check out that lactic acid serum. lactic acid is my favorite form of exfoliator as well and my skin does really well with it. however most products that include it cost more than i spend on food in a month lol! glad to see you’re still mostly enjoying what you reviewed! xx

  6. The Too Faced concealer sounds amazing!! I’ve always been so wary of foundation sticks, idk I feel like they’d be dry on application and super hard to blend, but I’ve never tried one before so I guess I can’t rightly say I’d know what it’s like haha x

  7. Loved the idea behind this post! Always interesting to hear how tastes change over time. Personally I’ve been reaching for products that have been tucked away for a while but now work well since my skin has become oily again. Thanks for recommending the Revolution drops – never knew about those!

  8. Ooh I absolutely love the concept behind this post! This was such a good read and it’s so interesting to hear that some of the things you loved you don’t reach for as much as you thought! I really want to try the REN toner!

  9. Maybe I will try the Revolution Pro Drops rather than the Foundation Stick! I have heard good things about both but I do not want to waste any money! I still want to try the XO Balm it looks like one of those products that are going to last a while! I love the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation although I haven’t used it in a while. I nearly ordered it the other day but was struggling to figure out which shade I would be, I am going to have to go into a store and have a look. My face gets puffy sometimes too so I think the Caffeine solution could work for me! xx
