AD| We can go out!!! But I don’t think I want to? Okay, so pretty much all we’re allowed to do right now is go for a walk or sit in a garden with someone you don’t live with, but as restrictions are lessened, it’s got me thinking about my own roadmap to getting out and about again, and I’m not ready. At least not to go out properly, we’re all going to have to do that at our own pace. But one thing I am looking forward to is actually being able to see people, get ready for some home events and have some celebrations for things we’ve missed over the last year.

Missed Family Celebrations

My family missed out on pretty much everyone’s birthday last year. Mine was the only one not in lockdown, but it was two weeks after pubs reopened and people were still far too excited to be out for me to feel comfortable doing anything, so none of us really celebrated. However, my whole family has now had their first dose, and with the vaccination rollout going so fast, the idea of all being able to meet up and mix again properly doesn’t seem so far away these days.
I want to cook for someone again

And on a much more selfish note, I’m excited to start hosting again. As a food blogger, my family and friends are often my guinea pigs for the recipes I post, sometimes I serve something up as a bit of reassurance that it tastes as good as the non-vegan version (it’s been 6 years, I can’t really tell myself anymore) or sometimes I’m asking whether people think something needs a bit more of this or less of that. It’s a small luxury that I always took for granted. Especially at this time of year when I’m prepping for recipe a day May.
But I’m really looking forward to being back in the kitchen, feeling a bit stressed about the fact I’m trying to make 10 things at once and making 4 dishes for the first time. I’ve missed planning a full menu, not just a weekly meal plan.
Getting Ready For Home Events
So, if you’re anything like me and can’t wait to have some people over again and feel that rush of washing every single serving dish in the house, just in case, you should go all out when it comes to decorating and getting the home celebration ready.
After a year of very few celebrations, it’s more than reasonable to want to go all out and have full themed celebrations for every occasion. And sites like Design Bundles make that really easy for everyone. With so many templates, you don’t need to be that creative. As long as you have a theme idea, you have access to all sorts of templates and mockups, so you can get pretty much anything.
Whether you have a child that wants everything pink and you’re browsing through the flamingo clipart and making all the candy floss. Or the kids are having a cute farmyard themed get together before they’re allowed to go to the petting zoo again, and you’re looking at a variety of animals from goats to chicken clipart, you can get creative and create an event at home to suit anyone’s tastes and interests.
Having said that, the first family event that we’ll likely be celebrating is my grandad’s birthday. I’m not sure if asking for Barry Manilow clipart templates is a step too far.
Have you planned any at home events before you reintroduce yourself to the real world again? What would your ideal theme be for your own get together?
Until next time,
Sophie
I’m hoping to invite my family into my home again soon and just be together again! x

I can honestly relate to this on so many levels. I’ve really started to love cooking in lockdown and I want more people to cook for. I’m also super desperate to have a house warming party but that is a different story. I think I’d go for a roaring 20s theme, or a cat theme to be honest x
Aww, Hugo is ADORABLE!!

I love this. I’m so not ready either and it’s reassuring that I’m not the only one. I had family over in the garden over the weekend and the anxiety building up to it was insane. It’s great you’ve found things to look forward to even though you’re not quite ready for the rest of the world yet. Loved this.
I’m going to be exactly the same! I’m still planning on staying home and avoiding busy areas, it can be so scary! Luckily I’ve just moved so I’ve got a good few weeks to busy myself with decorating etc, but once I can have people over, I’ll probably stick to one at a time!
I’m excited to get back to normality with events and seeing people! I’m just looking forward to BBq and beach days really x
I’m not ready either to feel comfortable to go out and see people even though I’m looking forward to having home events again and seeing my friends and family. The only person we’ve had come over was my Granddad but he’s in our bubble and only felt comfortable coming over since getting his second vaccine. But I’m the same as you, just looking forward to spending time with others even if I’m not ready to right now yet.
I haven’t planned any home events just yet as some of my friends and family are still waiting to get their shots. But I am excited because it seems like we can start getting together again soon!

I feel you on this one. I am like you and can’t wait for home events. I have missed family celebrations, the fun, and cheer having family around brings. I mean who doesn’t love a full house? I can’t wait to have everyone together! It’s always so much fun.
I am so excited that you were able to get your first dose and can get back to more normal living soon. Plus I can’t wait to see what you share on the blog… after first testing it on your family! 🙂
I’m so happy we can have a normal life again little by little! I can’t wait to invite my friends home again!
I will be so excited for this day but it seems so far away right now here in Canada where only a small portion of the population has been offered a vaccine. Thanks for sharing!
It’s so nice to read that I’m not the only one who doesn’t feel ready to be seeing people again, I’ve just become too scared of everyone and I don’t trust other people’s hand washing techniques haha! But on the other hand I’m very much looking forward to hosting my first vegan BBQ when the weather warms up a bit! Milli X – http://millidavison.co.uk/
I love your dog,so cute❤
We are hoping to have friends round for a BBQ if the weather decides what it is doing! We are definitely considering home events first of all as we want to see friends but are reluctant to go straight back to ‘normality’.
Lovely post, and Hugo is so cute! I’m looking forward to spending time with my friends again, walks are a great start but I’m looking forward to the day we can all meet and hang out together.

This is such a wonderful post and I feel similar with the hesitation of being ready to be with people again! At the same time I am excited for when I will be able to host family/friends again (once safe) but definitely a mindset change to what the past year has been. Congrats on the first does – and best of luck with planning an event with your loved ones once you’re ready.
Feeling your joy here, and loving that you found the perfect place to help you with your entertaining. It truly was something I overlooked to be able to cook for people and ask for advice on how to make something better, as well as being able to treasure all the conversation memories! 🙂 <3
Ahh I honestly can’t wait to be able to properly see people again! And I totally get what you mean about wanting to host and cook for people again (that pasta looks amaaazing btw), I miss it so much too 🙁 I’m excited to actually be able to see people on my birthday this year as last year It was during the full lockdown!
I’m definitely excited to meet up in other people’s homes (and mine, haha) and just chill over food as well!

I can’t wait to have people over and go to other people’s houses too!
Life is a Shoe
This post got me excited to have people over again! I feel hesitant and ecstatic at the same time. Is that weird?
I cannot wait to host some mini parties in my garden! Love your ideas for getting together and being safe!

I am honestly not ready to go out again yet, but really can’t wait to visit back my family in Italy! It’s still a long stretch to travel, but I am sure that will love it whenever it will be possible! Thank you for sharing x
So excited to get back to normal again, thanks for sharing these ideas!
