August isn’t that different to July in terms of what’s in season, we still have a great range of vegetables and summer berries and the vast majority of the more autumnal ingredients are yet to come into season, with the exception of a couple of early season apples. The weather is still warm and smoothies and salads are still on the menu with what’s in season in August.

Ingredient of the Month
Okay, I’m cheating. This month there are two – peaches and plums. They’re included for the simple reason that I really like both and hardly ever eat either of them, so this is a little push to get a bit more creative and reach for them more. It’s too easy to think of summer and only use berries.
In season recipes
If plums and peaches aren’t your thing, or you want some more recipes to browse before this month’s recipe series commences, here are a few recipe suggestions including some currently in season ingredients.
This recipe uses chestnut mushrooms, but with certain wild mushrooms in season, there’s no reason why you couldn’t opt for those instead.

Plums are in season, but the spices used in this one are a little more autumnal. However, if you love those warm spices all year, this one could be for you.

This recipe was the reason I made peaches an ingredient of the month this month. I loved this recipe, and it made such a nice change from either berry smoothie bowls, or something green. But I think this is the only peach recipe I currently have.

This smoothie used to be my absolute go-to for a quick summer breakfast. Frozen cherries were my favourite thing to put in a smoothie. It’s been a while, but this one is a classic.

A more recent recipe post, tofu with a strawberry marinade on a spinach and broccoli salad.

It couldn’t be a summer recipe roundup post without mentioning a strawberry breakfast recipe. Balsamic roasted strawberries with fresh basil served on cream cheese on toast.

Which ingredient are you looking forward to cooking with the most this month?
Until next time,
Sophie
