The recipes I’ve made/ planned for this month so far don’t exactly scream Autumn, so this is my simple nod to the seasons changing, hello autumn with some spiced plum oats. I’m seeing news of incoming ‘heatwaves’ while I’m seeing everyone get excited about PSL season, so these cinnamon, nutmeg and pecan oats are the perfect little transition for a slightly cooler morning even if it turns out there’s a sunny day ahead.
I opted to lightly caramelise the plums in a pan before making the oats to keep things quick and easy, and you’ll only need one pan. But if you want to turn this up a notch, you can also bake the plums in sugar and the spices for 20-25 minutes then chop them and mix them in. Alternatively, batch bake your plums for a few days’ worth, then make basic oats and add the plums in so your breakfast only takes 5 minutes.
If you do opt to bake them, prep them like this, just switch the apples for plums – Spiced Baked Apples Recipe.

Can I store and reheat?
No – not the dish as a whole. You can make your plums and store those in the fridge to add to fresh oats down the line, but do not make and reheat the fully prepared dish.
As there’s no preservatives in the plums, they won’t keep for a long time, but you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Pretty good. I had some plums I needed to use up and decided to try this recipe. I think next time I would dial back on the nutmeg, just as a matter of personal preference. The 1/2 Tablespoon seemed a bit much for my tastebuds. Other than that, good to go.
