I hate this time of year.
Actually that’s not true, this is my favourite season. I love the deep autumnal colours, I love the crisp leaves on the ground, I love the fact I’m no longer getting funny looks because I’m opting for a wine coloured lipstick in the middle of summer.
But I do hate my skin. Autumn is by far the season I struggle with my skin the most; it’s not quite time for the thick winter creams yet summertime skincare is no longer cutting it in the moisture department. Here are a few swaps and additions I’ve been making to my routine to help give my skin a little pre-winter boost.
- Boosting the exfoliation.
This is something I really struggle with. For me the colder weather means my skin is already starting to flake, but it also means my skin is more sensitive so stronger exfoliators are a no go. I’ll be switching my gentle exfoliating pads for a slightly stronger one once or twice a week.

- Same hydration, different formulation.
I love this entire line and I can’t see a day when I don’t have these products in my stash. Now it might seem a little over the top to switch a product for a different one in the same line but while the original Moisture Surge is cooling and hydrating, the Overnight Mask version gives your skin an extra plump so it still feels fresh and bouncy the next morning.

- Thicker Textures.
Now thicker creamy SPFs are most people’s idea of hell. That stereotype people had of greasy textures that take a while to absorb has pretty much disappeared now many brands have launched lightweight alternatives but as it starts getting colder, SPF formulas are one of the first things I change. In summer I much prefer a more matte texture, but as my skin gets a little drier, I have to say goodbye to my favourite SPF in favour of something more moisturising that my makeup will sit better on top of.

Additions:
Come winter the additions section of my routine will be a mile long but for autumn the main change I make may
seem a little strange, it’s an anti-redness serum.
While I don’t typically have a lot of redness in my skin, when it gets dry it becomes more easily irritated. And sensitive and of course more irritation means more redness.

Although this serum isn’t the best at eliminating redness it is quite cooling and soothing on the skin, and hydrating which makes it a nice boost under makeup. And it isn’t green, which makes me instantly prefer it to other redness colour correcting creams.
Good evening. Thank you… Really enjoyed reading this page.

Thank you! Clinique also have a great anti redness line. Glad you found it helpful.
