This time last year I did a post called ‘Introducing Strictly Seasonal’. For a year, I’ve shared recipes using fruits and vegetables in season once a week, but it’s time for a change. After a year of ‘What’s In Season’ posts and seasonal recipes, it would be very easy for things to get repetitive. So, we’re introducing plant sourced, a vegan nutrition series. Â
What’s Plant Sourced?
I really liked the fact that Strictly Seasonal was informative and people could learn something from them. And when I thought about a new series to replace it, I knew I wanted to do something similar. So, plant sourced is going to be the same thing, this time it’s focused on nutrition. Each month I’m going to be focusing on one vitamin, mineral etc that vegans risk becoming deficient in, or non-vegans wonder what the plant based sources are and share recipes focused on that one thing.Â
For example, iron. At the start of the month there will be a post listing vegan sources of iron, then as the month goes on, I’ll be sharing high iron recipes. Hopefully this can help people out who may be low in each vitamin, or give some reassurance to people thinking about changing their diet that they can get everything they need. Â
How it’s going to workÂ
The specific amounts of each thing I’m aiming for will vary depending on the specific vitamin/ mineral and how easy it to get the recommended amount. On average, I’ll probably aim for a third of the daily amount per recipe, but I’ll be more specific about each thing at the start of the month when I introduce the monthly vitamin. Â
In January, we’re starting with protein and plant based protein sources. But that one is going to be a little difficult because protein needs are calculated by body mass not a generic amount. We’ll talk more about how that’s going to work come January though. Â

No more seasonal recipes? Â
Okay, so Strictly Seasonal is saying goodbye but seasonal recipes won’t be going anywhere. I’m certain that by the time autumn rolls around next year my feed will be full of pumpkin and squash again. I’ll still be updating my seasonal recipe categories, just not posting them weekly any longer. Â
As of right now, my list contains all of the obvious, iron, protein, calcium, vitamin D etc. If anyone else has any specific things they’d like to see, let me know in the comments!  Â
Until next time,Â
SophieÂ

This is such a great idea! Can’t wait to try out some of the recipes!
I think covering recipes based on the nutrients vegans risk missing is a great idea! My sister is vegetarian so we’ve always worried about making sure she isn’t missing a nutrient by skipping one of the foods on the table. (She has a lot of allergies and on top of that, she’s also really picky about fruits and the traditional veggies of our region.)
Great idea! I’m sure it will be helpful for many of us. Can’t wait to see future posts on this topic 🙂
Would you like us to follow each other ?

This is such a great idea especially with veganuary approaching in the new year, I look forward to your recipes as I always struggle to fund good ideas
I love the idea of focusing one vitamin or mineral a month. This is very important for vegans. It also helps all of us learn how to take better care of ourselves.
This is super interesting – I’ve been meaning to switch to a plant-based diet for a while, so will definitely look into this more.
Happy holidays! 🙂
