I’m cheating a bit today. It’s officially autumn within the next week. I’ve bought my ingredients for my first autumnal recipe, I’ve started my what’s in season in Autumn post. I’ve made a list of some autumnal recipes to feature in the next chapter of this series. And I really don’t want to accept the fact I still needed one more summer recipe. So, I’m cheating, today I’m sharing this caramelised apple baked oats recipe. The cheat? Hot caramelised apples and baked oats doesn’t sound summery does it? Here, it’s all about the apples and they’re the best ‘transitional’ ingredient I could come up with.
Suggested Post: What’s In Season In Summer?Â
Seasonal Ingredients Â
So, the apples are my seasonal ingredient today. Although apples are typically seen as an autumnal ingredient (and will no doubt feature more in the coming season), it depends on the variety. Most apples come into season in or around September time (so I’m not cheating). The humble Bramley cooking apple is in season all year, so still not cheating. But kinda cheating because this recipe is definitely more autumnal than summery. Â
Nutritional Information Â
This recipe contains around 20% of the RDA of vitamin C and just under 7g of fibre, which is just over a quarter of the recommended daily amount of 25g. The high fibre breakfast should keep you full throughout the morning and the apples will help to keep your sweet tooth satisfied. Â
Caramelised Apple Baked Oats RecipeÂ
I deliberately kept this recipe lower in sugar to keep this breakfast option as healthy as possible. It can be refined sugar free, depending on your choice of sweetener. A sweet yet satisfyingly filling breakfast option.Â
This recipe is gluten free, dairy free, soy free and nut free. Â

Caramelised Apple Baked Oats Recipe
Ingredients
- ½ tbsp vegan butter
- 2 small apples peeled and chopped
- ½ tbsp brown sugar or liquid sweetener of choice
- ¼ cup water
- ¾ cup GF oats
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 180°c
-
In a large frying pan or saucepan, melt butter over medium heat; add apples. Cook, stirring constantly, until apples are almost tender, about 6 to 7 minutes.
-
Stir in brown sugar and water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.
-
While the apples are cooking, pour oats into a deep oven friendly dish and spread them evenly across the bottom.
-
Cover oats with water (or almond miland set aside for 10-15 minutes.
-
Then stir through the oats. If there's little to no liquid left, stir in the caramelised apples. Leave any of the remaining liquid in the pan.
-
Place in the centre of the oven for 20 minutes. When they're ready it should be crisp around the edges but still gooey in the middle.
-
When cooked, pour the remaining liquid from the apple pan over the top before serving.
Serve and enjoy!
Do you like the sound of this transitional breakfast recipe? What’s your favourite breakfast when the temperatures start to drop?Â
Until next time,Â

I actually couldn’t care less about the transitional aspect, this looks so delicious I’d have it at any time of year. Seriously yummy, Sophie, I’m drooling! Lisa x
Caramelized Apple Baked Oats is so perfect for the fall season. I like foods that come out of the oven nice and hot to start the morning. I like oats and apples together for a nice, warm healthy breakfast.
This sounds dreamy! I’m looking to switch up my breakfast and this sounds absolutely perfect for autumn x

I love going apple picking in September to see how many different types of apples there are besides just granny smith, my favorite as to be Ruby Frost! I’m trying to find in my brain Bramley apple, but unless I really don’t look at labels for apples, I don’t think I’ve heard of them? I’m going to search if maybe they’re just native to UK!
This sounds super filling, like a healthy apple pie! So the oats soak/absorb the water before mixing the apples in – I’ve tried overnight oats, regular oats on stove top, but haven’t tried oatmeal for breakfast in the oven before hahaha this sounds like such a healthy twist to apple pie classic but for breakfast! (well, technically speaking I could eat apple pie for breakfast haha)
This looks absolutely dreamy! I love baked apples they taste amazing, I’m not such an oat lover but I’d like to give this a go x

I absolutely love this combo sweetie, so yummy and comforting.
I’m desperate to start baking warm seasonal goodies again and this post just inspired me to start a tad earlier this year. I usually stick to porridge on a winters morning, there’s nothing better than feeling full and toasty and you can add so many toppings, it never gets boring.
Love this post and the recipe. It’s definitely not cheating because Apple are year round . That does sound like the perfect breakfast to have on the first day of Autumn though!
This sounds tasty! Caremelised apple definitley sounds like an autumn food!
This recipe sounds amazing! I love apples and I do love to have them in deserts like apple pie or crumble so I bet I would really like to have it with oats too! X
I love apples and I love oats but my teeth hurt just to reading this recipe! Haha! I think I’ll just stick with my normal oats and almond milk!

This looks really good! Thanks for sharing.
Now this is dripping with fall flavors! Since I happened to have apples on hand, I went straight for this and loved it. 🙂
Oh my! YUM! Personally, I struggle with cooked apples somewhat, but this looks absolutely delish so at the grand old age of 30 and a bit (the bit is half a decade and then some but tomatoes tomatoes) I am going to put my aversion to one side and give this a whirl!
What an excellent grown up I am, thanks so much for sharing,
H x
This sounds delicious and absolutely perfect for Fall!

This sounds absolutely amazing. This would definitely make me feel happy and prepared for the day ahead after having this for breakfast. I am a big fan of recipes with apple in, especially the sweeter things like pies and crumbles. Caramelised apple sounds delicious, this is one that I have to try. Thank you for sharing!
