(Gifted) Last week in my GRWM I mentioned that I’d been sent a few bits from Bali Body and today I’m going to be sharing my thoughts on some of their products. I’m mainly going to be talking about their highlighter sticks because I’ve played with those the post. Knowing I was doing this post has encouraged me to actually make an effort with my appearance for the last week or so, very thankful for that.
Who are Bali Body?
For those who don’t know, Bali Body are an Australian beauty brand. They’re vegan, their products are mainly sell tanning products and skincare, with a few makeup products too.
My skin & preferences
I have dry skin, and I’ll probably tell you that about 100 times in this post. But because I have drier skin, I’m a huge fan of liquid and cream products in general. I use cream blush and contour products 90% of the time I’m wearing makeup, and 100% of the time in winter when my skin is at its driest. Highlighters, however, can be a little trickier. I love cream and liquid highlighters, but I find those formulas the hardest to work with out of the three usually, and I’ve tried more than my fair share that look like they’re going to be beautiful then proceed to move all of the foundation underneath as I’m blending and completely ruin my makeup. We’ve all been there. I had fairly high hopes but wasn’t sure what to expect.
Bali Body Highlighter Sticks Review
Highlighter Stick Shades on Pale Skin
I received the shades Moonlit and Rose Gold, and I was slightly nervous that they were going to be too dark for my skin tone when I opened the package. But I thought I could use them for something else if they weren’t the perfect shades to highlight with.
Moonlit is a soft champagne shade that felt like a safer option for paler skin, so I tried that first. Thankfully, it blends a lot paler than it looks. My first swipe left a beautiful golden hue much darker than my skin on my cheekbone, but that faded into a soft glow as I blended it out.

I know they look darker in the tubes, but the base colour is more sheer so it’s not quite so scary on paler skin. As you can tell from the swatch, both shades are quite a bit darker than my natural complexion, but Moonlit still blends out to look quite natural on my skin.

The formula
The first time I used it, I used a smaller stippling concealer brush to blend it in, which I wasn’t a huge fan of. After that, I went back in with my fingers and 100% think tapping this product in with your warm skin is the best way to do it. As soon as I started to use my fingers it blended in beautifully, no harsh edges, no products underneath were disturbed and it left my skin with a beautiful lit from within kind of glow. It wasn’t a blinding highlight, although I’m fairly certain it would have built up to be able to do that if that’s more your thing.
I’ve mainly used this formula over other cream products and found that it melts in perfectly. And it dries down to a matte so it isn’t sliding around your face all day either.
Liquid over powder?
After a few successful makeup days with creams, I decided to try them over a powder. Using a new cream product over a powder always worries me. I know the whole creams before powders rule is one from times gone by and most modern cream formulas are able to be applied over powders with no issues, but it still makes me nervous. There was no need to be. The only difference I noticed when I applied it over a powder blush was that it dries down a lot quicker so you get less time to blend, but my dry skin is a contributing factor to this too. You might not notice that if you’re more oily. I’d definitely do one cheek at a time rather than sweeping across both then blending if you have powders underneath, but that was the only difference in terms of product application and blendability.
Rose Gold?
As expected, this one was too deep to use as a highlighter on my skin tone. So, I opted to use it as a liquid eyeshadow…before I’d checked if they were eye safe. They are, don’t worry. But don’t be me either and check your products first.
This multitasking Highlighter Stick can also be used as a blush, bronzer or eyeshadow.
After I’d checked, I saw the above product description on the website and it got me thinking that the rose gold would make a beautiful blush topper for a matte blush too. I don’t think the base pigment in it is strong enough to wear as a standalone blush, but the rosy toned shimmer would look lovely to brighten up your cheeks.
As an eyeshadow, it performed well. Didn’t fade or flake off throughout the day and didn’t transfer into my crease either.
Me – Questioning my life choices and wondering if I should actually be putting this on my eye.
Hydrating Mist
Receiving their hydrating mist could not have come at a better time. My skin has been so dry since lockdown started. I have absolutely no idea why, but the hydration boost was required. This felt lovely and fresh on my bare skin and refreshed my makeup nicely later in the day. The mist itself is quite full on, but doesn’t drown you either.
I received their gradual tan too, but I haven’t had a chance to use that yet. Now, I love my milk bottle skin. Truly. But for some reason, whenever my arms get a hint of colour, they hold onto it for months and months. So, while my legs are literally white, I have a light olive undertone, so my arms stay slightly golden. I opted for a gradual tan to even my legs to my arms when necessary. But while I’m not leaving the house, I’ve been too lazy I haven’t found it necessary to have an even skin tone.

I’ve never tried Bali Body, but it sounds like their highlighters are lovely. I never use liquid highlighters, as I am always afraid that they will disturb the rest of my makeup – I use powder and powder blush, but it sounds like these still go on nicely.
I think I will have to check them out! The face mist sounds lovely too.

I also received the BaliBody highlighters and I was really impressed with them and have been using them quite a bit. I haven’t tried to use them as eyeshadows though so I’ll need to try that out next. Great review! X

I’ve not heard of Bali body before but the highlighters are gorgeous, too dark for my skin but they look lovely as liquid eyeshadows!
I was really nervous about the shades but the base is so sheer you can’t really see anything other than the sheen, there’s zero chance I’d be able to wear them that dark either
I love the sound of Bali Body products! The rose gold really does look beautiful as an eyeshadow and the hydrating mist sounds right up my street. I bet it’d be lovely using it on a warm day after keeping it in the fridge, too! I am also exactly the same in that my arms will tan in about an hour and stay for months yet my legs are still ghostly white, but I am also too lazy to care!

Randomly deciding to use a product as and eye shadow and THEN checking if it’s safe around the eyes is TOTALLY the order that I would have done things in… I’m bad for that! I’m glad that it all worked out and you were good to go. It looks great on you – the colours are really pretty.

These days I just make sure to hydrate and keep SPF on, both are musts regardless of sun exposure!

I heard of Bali Body quite recently but have never tried anything from them. These highlighters sound wonderful, great that they don’t shift but blend out so well. I rarely wear eyeshadow because it wears off so fast and ends up in my oily little creases (now there’s a phrase I never thought I’d be writing). But I’m glad they work for you – my favourite is the Moonlit one too, that’s so subtle and pretty. Happy tanning when you do get around to it! xx

Ooo I’ve actually never even heard of this brand before! looks lovely on you though! I really struggle with highlighter! I don’t feel like I can ever get one to suit me because I’m pale skinned but this one looks great! Thanks for the recommendation!

I don’t usually use highlighter too much, only really if I’m going all out. I like the idea of using them for eyeshadow though especially if you find they are too dark for your skin, the colours are super pretty so I would probably end up using them for eyeshadow too, especially that rose gold one. I haven’t put much make up during lockdown, the only times have been the occasional work day when I feel like I needed the motivation of wearing my normal work make-up look to help me work, and taking pictures for my blog – thats about it!

I’ve been seeing these a lot on Instagram. Hopefully they will bring out lighter shades that will work for you too Sophie! I do love liquid highlighter formulas and the doe foot looks like it would be easy to apply precisely. Using them as eyeshadows is a good idea xx

I love the Bali Body highlighters too! I received the same shades as you and remember thinking how pretty the rose gold one would be as an eyeshadow. As you said, they’re great because they don’t move the foundation you’re wearing like some liquid highlighters. I love that the glow is soft and subtle because it means you can wear them in the day too x
