(AD) I was originally going to call this post something like ‘all dressed up and nowhere to go’, then I took a step back and realised that’s a little negative. Making the best of it is exactly what we’re doing with most things right now. But I’m especially feeling it every time I actually make an effort with my appearance and ‘do something’ right now. Let’s face it, I know the majority of us are making less effort than usual for our regular days at the minute. But it was my mum’s birthday. All original plans were obviously cancelled, there were a couple of Zoom drinks happening instead. But I’d been sent some stuff that I wanted to have a little okay around with and decided I wanted to make the effort to get fully ready for basically the first time in a month.
Not gonna lie, I was concerned that I’d forget how to do my makeup.
But First…Cake

Before I could start prepping my face, I had the very serious task of baking a cake. So, comfort was key. Yes, those are the same trousers I was wearing in my ‘work from home‘ post in a different colour. What can I say, I really did think they were a great item for working from home… I really wanted to get the khaki version, but unfortunately, they were out of stock in my size when I was trying to place my order.

Trying to remember how to do my makeup
Once my kitchen duties were over (post featuring the cake coming next week), it was time to get ready. This took longer than I care to admit. So, I didn’t exactly forget how to apply my makeup, but I seemed to spend an embarrassing amount of time longer than usual making sure I hadn’t missed/ forgotten steps. I nearly forgot to apply my concealer before I did my cream blush. We don’t need to talk about it.
I’d been sent some bits from Bali Body that I was looking forward to trying for the first time. Looking back, it was probably a dumb move to try a new product when you’re doing a full face for the first time in weeks. In the end, they performed well enough for me not to have to worry about that (thankfully). Full review of those coming soon after I’ve had some more time to play with them a little more.

Outfit
I’d been wanting to wear this top for a few weeks but it’s not the most practical when you have a dog on your knee for half of your day, so wearing it to mark the special occasion felt appropriate. The body is a thin ribbed sweater, so it’s still really cosy and comfortable (we are staying in after all). I decided to change before I did my makeup as it’s a higher neck and didn’t want to ruin my face or clothes about three seconds after I’d applied it. Meanwhile, my mum said I looked like a bird getting ready to take off every time I moved my arms. Personally, I’m a fan of the puff sleeves trend right now. What do you guys think?

I know some people don’t see any point in wearing anything other than loungewear and having a bare face right now. But I think it does feel better to make a little more effort and do something that feels more like a part of your previous normal routine. And if you are sat at home with too much free time on your hands, tasks like clearing out your wardrobe or makeup collection are a great way to kill time. And if that sounds dull, take the time to plan some new outfits or makeup looks for when we are finally allowed out.
Have you guys celebrated any birthdays while we’ve been in lockdown? Did you try to do something at home and make a bit more of an effort?
Until next time,
Sophie
*Some of the clothing worn in this post was gifted by Femme Luxe. They also sent one of their dresses, unfortunately, that wasn’t quite the right fit.
You look amazing ❤️
I worked from home for a bit but is now back at work (they are trying to get the most out of me before I stop in Thursday since I’ve been laid off due to corona) so I’m back to makeup and business clothes. Though to be fair the only difference is that my business clothes is blouses and cardigans with my black jeans, and my normal is sweaters and t-shirts with black jeans
Thanks for sharing
I think it’s great to get a bit more done up/dressed up every once in a while, and especially so to celebrate a birthday. It’s important to keep some sort of routine whilst in lockdown, and it’s nice to get back into things that you used to do, isn’t it?
I love the top, I like the balloon sleeves, think it adds something to the top! Also loving your make-up too!
Aimsy xoxo
Your top is fabulous and I like your natural make-up.
I celebrated my b-day last month and soon will be my sister’s birthday.

Love it. Your make up is so pretty and on the point. And your outfit is We have my sons sixth birthday on the 21th. We had a avengers meet justice league party where kiddos dress up as they fav. Marvel or DC hero. Now we have to cahnge a bit as he can not have his little friends over. So its going to be a conference video kind of a party. Grown up are going to get dresses up if that will make him happy. I would be a great Black widow
Love this post! I have a virtual happy hour with my sisters every Friday. You can come as you are but I like to put my face on and wear something nice. It just makes me feel happier
Completely agree with you about trying to keep some sort of routine during lockdown to keep a sense of normality. We’ve celebrated several birthdays now during this time and held a house party via Skype so everyone dressed up and dialled in while we all enjoyed our own nibbles and drink
We’ve had to cancel my little girl’s birthday but we’re definitely making the most of web chats. Such a great idea to have a zoom chat with your mum! I love the sleeves on that top!

I haven’t got dressed for weeks. This post has made me think perhaps one day next week I’ll get up and dressed and do my makeup. See how it makes me feel. Your makeup looks so pretty in this. Hope you are well, stay safe x
I haven’t done my make up in so long, but my skin is feeling so good!
Love, Amie ❤

This top Sophie! I am seriously in love. I have worn makeup a few times while at home just because I enjoy the process and yes forgetting the steps is a real thing haha. It makes me feel more human even if I am just at home 🙂 hope you’re well xx

I’m glad you were able to still celebrate your mums birthday over on Zoom!
I found that I’ve been dressing up a lot more than I would do outside of quarantine – which is very strange! I think it’s because I could experiment and if it goes wrong, then there’s no one to see it haha. I love your natural look!
Ah so glad you made the most of it! Its always a good idea to keep productive! Great blog btw x
Hi Sophie, I haven’t yet made the effort to celebrate any special occasions during the lockdown, but after reading this piece, I think I will take the time to put on some make-up and look my best – at least for one day! Thanks for the inspiration.
Joan
I love the top you’re wearing Sophie, it’s lovely! I do my makeup once a week right now, it just makes me feel better! My birthday is in a few weeks which means I’ll be in total lockdown for it! x

I celebrated my own 21st birthday a couple weeks ago and i didn’t really make much effort, didn’t see the point! But I’ve been having 1/2 days a week where I’ll do a full face to make myself feel a bit better! Love this kinda content from you Sophie x
You look gorgeous – you haven’t forgotten a thing!
I have been in joggers and baggy tshirts for weeks, occasionally I will put a pair of jeans on to walk coda, but the other day I got ready, full face of make (eyelashes and everything) just to feel better about myself and to take selfies, it did work tbh! I love those trousers and the top is pretty too! You look beautiful xx
My sister’s birthday is coming up and we have plans for cake and dinner to make the day special. It is tough being apart from family on days when we would normally be together but I love your positive spin on being dressed up and putting on a smile.
I have loved puff sleeves since I watched Anne of Green Gables all those years ago. 🙂
Your makeup looks amazing and that shirt is gorgeous!
So far we’ve celebrated both my daughter’s birthday and my mom’s birthday last month. I hope all this is over soon!
There is nothing wrong with dressing up for the sake of dressing up, especially if it makes you happy. I actually celebrated my birthday about a month ago and I celebrated it by finding potatoes. lol.
I honestly think we all have to do what is right for us. If that means loungewear. Go for it. If that means you want to glam up here and there then yes! Do it! I actually prefer a little of both myself. I still have to go out for work (albeit only 1-2 days a week now) so I’m still doing my make up. Those days I am home sometimes I’ll just put on a little CC cream so I don’t look/feel like too much of a zombie!

That top is beautiful Sophie! I have made a real conscious effort to make sure I get dressed every day. I am not wearing make up, I saw it as a good opportunity to prepare my skin for my upcoming wedding, and not wearing make up seemed like an easy win.
Take care and stay safe

Been playing around with makeup too, both as a refresher and trying something new! It’s a good time to experiment, or at least make use of eyeshadows I normally would never wear out.
Love that top it’s so petal-y!
You look gorgeous, Sophie! Your makeup is super pretty and that top is so nice too, I’m also a fan of the puff sleeve trend, it is really cute and stylish. I hope your mum had a lovely birthday despite the circumstances. I also celebrated my birthday at the weekend and it involved a lot of cake and video chats! I haven’t worn any makeup lately, but I agree, getting dressed up occasionally does make us feel better. Thank you for the inspiration! <3 xx

This is not my niche, but great post! Really solid advice!!!
Great post! I love the outfit!
Thanks for sharing this – I totally agree that it’s still important to make an effort with out appearance even in these challenging circumstances. I’ve always been quite laid back with my fashion sense and wearing no makeup comes with ease too, so I’ve not made many changes. I’ve also purchased some new clothes to wear and make myself feel good this Spring.

My birthday is actually tomorrow. We were supposed to go away camping this past weekend, but obviously that was cancelled with the closure of all the parks. Instead, my husband came home with a case of my fav craft beer and we just hung out in the back yard drinking beer and watching our pups play. It was honestly the best I could have hoped for, all things considered. Then when he was doing our weekly grocery shopping yesterday, he surprised me with a cute little cake that he found. I mean, there’s no one I would rather celebrate with – my husband and our ‘pack’ 🙂
I’ve been eyeing up the Natural Mattes palette for a while – it’s so gorgeous and the shades are right up my street! I love the way your makeup turned out and I love your trousers too! So comfy yet so put together 🙂 x
I have had a couple of days where I’ve made the effort to put on nice clothes and do my make-up, although thats probably only 2 days out of the whole lockdown so far! I like that top, I feel like what your mum said is something mine would say haha. Its my boyfriends birthday soon, I don’t know if I’d be able to convince him to dress up smart though, but I probably will! Hope your mum had a lovely birthday!

The top is lush!!! And I love the eyeshadow look you went for, so Springy and fresh and natural and shimmery :’) I set Sunday’s aside as my day to actually do my makeup and wear real clothes (although the clothes only last on me for a few hours haha), and it’s something to look forward to, that’s for sure!!
You look so nice in your work from home stuff – I look like a potato!x
Your pictures are really beautiful my lovely. Thankfully I haven’t celebrated my birthday in lockdown yet but my birthday is in July which means by the looks of things so far I may end up doing so! I’m sending you so much love. Stay strong, stay home, stay safe.
With love, Alisha Valerie x | http://www.alishavalerie.com
Such a lovely post! I deffo think its good to get changed and put some makeup on now and then during the lockdown as it gives a bit of routine! I also love the eyeshadow!
