AD|Last week I shared a post about why a cooking date was a great idea during lockdown, and while the national lockdown is set to end tomorrow, a very large percentage of the country are in tier 2 or 3. Which means that restaurants can only open for takeout (3) or you’re allowed to eat in, but only with members of the same household (2). So, if you are dating right now, that cooking date is still looking like the best option for the majority, and here are some recipes I think would be great date night dishes.
Find out more about tiers.
Going into 2021, I doubt this will change much. There’s already talk of yet another national lockdown after Christmas, and with the vaccine still months away for the majority of people, I think social interaction will still be minimal for a lot of us for a little while now.
So, if you’re going to be stuck indoors for a while now, the majority of dates will still be taking place via a screen. And if you are dating, the majority will be looking for someone locally. If you’re on the Merseyside dating scene and happy to have been placed in tier two this time, you don’t want to be going backwards. So, if things go well, more home or virtual dates may still be on the agenda.
Home Date Night Dishes
Pizza

Who doesn’t love pizza?
Cheese or no cheese, gluten free or regular base. It’s an easy dish to make, you can compare whose looks better, argue about whether pineapple belongs there (it absolutely does not), and then eat it casually while you chat. Or you could make it even easier and use a ready made pizza base.
No one needs to know you’re cheating.
Pasta

Okay, so I know it sounds like I’m trying to host an at home Italian restaurant at this point, but they are a popular choice. And pasta is a pretty hard dish to screw up, and it’s a really easy dish to make presentable if you’re looking to impress with your culinary skills.

Curry

You’re probably realising at this point that I’m picking a meal from just about every variety of restaurant you could have gone to on a normal date. But Indian takeaways are really popular. And it looks a little better if you’ve made the effort to make it yourself. And one perk about virtual dating? There’s no need to worry about the smell if that would be a problem for you.
The same rule applies if you accidentally burn something.
Burgers
Also very popular restaurant choices. A theme is occurring.

But in all seriousness, burgers are great because a lot of them don’t need that much prep. And the majority can be left alone to cook without needing too much attention. So, it’s highly unlikely you’ll get distracted and end up ruining your dish.

Or just dessert?

Let’s be clear, I’m not suggesting you go all out and make a tart, start prepping pastry or do something that takes hours like my three layer brownies. But something simple, like cookie dough, could be fun. Then you can decide whether to just eat it, bake it, or get a little more creative with your recipe ideas.

Have you been dating during lockdown? What would be your meal of choice if you were looking for an at home date night dish?
Until next time,
Sophie

Everything looks delicious! My husband and I have been trying to have special ‘dates’ inside during our self-imposed lockdown (leading up to our daughter’s birth sometime later this month). The fall veggie burger looks like something we’d both really enjoy, plus making a bigger batch might freeze well for when we have a newborn and less time to cook!

These dishes look yummy & I love making my own pizzas! I agree pasta is hard to screw up haha. I haven’t successfully made my own veggie burger before, but I should try making your veggie burger because I love sweet potatoes!
Me and my boyfriend have had a few making our own pizza nights, I know its not quite the same as we live together but it is a fun thing to make for a date! I am sadly missing out on my annual christmas meal meet up with my friends this year so we are going to be doing a video call with our own christmas dishes which should still be fun hopefully! xx
This is such a terrific list of meal ideas! I especially love the idea of making curry.
Curry are definitely my favourite ones!
