Welcome to the first post in this year’s new recipe series, 5 ingredients, 5 recipes. If you’re not caught up on what the series is about, you can have a quick read of the 5 Ingredients, 5 Recipes introduction post before this one. But the main points are 5 in season ingredients and those 5 ingredients are the only fresh ingredients being used in the following 5 recipes. So, what are my 5 in season ingredients for January?
5 Ingredients, 5 Recipes January 2023
The 5 Ingredients
Of course there are many delicious ingredients to pick from, but it’s important that they’re something that can work together as well as providing enough range that the recipes don’t become too repetitive.
This month’s 5 ingredients are:
- Broccoli
- Sprouts
- Potatoes
- Lemons
- Limes
The top three are classic seasonal ingredients, but many people don’t realise that citrus fruits are in season in the winter months. I know including lemons and limes might seem a little limiting, but I wanted to make the most of having the option of both for dressings/ sauces and adding fresh flavours to winter dishes.
The 5 Recipes
A range of fresh and flavourful recipes ranging from a hearty winter soup to a fresh broccoli and lime pesto with meals perfect for lunches, dinners and sides.
A simple tenderstem and cream cheese puff pastry, perfect for light lunches.

One pot soup which uses almost every ingredient on the list, providing two of your 5-a-day per bowl.

Sweet, caramelised onions and sprouts with a toasted pine nut topping.

Vibrant, healthy and finished with a fragrant garlic and chilli sizzle. Perfect for pasta, burgers, sandwiches or even dipping.

A delicious side dish with fresh tenderstem broccoli, lemon and a hazelnut crisp.

I hope you enjoy! Which of the above are you looking forward to trying the most?
Until next time,
Sophie
