Welcome to 5 ingredients, 5 recipes February 2023. If you didn’t catch the post last month explaining what this is all about, every month in 2023, I’m picking five ingredients that are in season and those five foods are going to be the only fresh produce ingredients I use for 5 recipes.
5 Ingredients, 5 Recipes February 2023
The 5 Ingredients
This month those five ingredients are:
- Kale
- Purple Sprouting Broccoli/ Broccoli – technically purple sprouting broccoli has a very short season (right now) so purple sprouting is my official ingredient of the month. But regular broccoli is in season too, and it’s significantly cheaper than purple sprouting, so for one recipe on the list this month that included a large amount of broccoli, a traditional head made more sense.
- Passionfruit
- Pomegranate
- Oranges
I think a lot of people associate tropical ingredients like passionfruit with summer and forget/ don’t realise they’re in season at this time of year, and they’re so cheap right now, so I wanted to make the most of it.
The 5 Recipes
Sweet, creamy and versatile passionfruit curd recipe that requires only a handful of ingredients and 10 minutes of your time.

An easy lunch or side dish, ready in less than 20 minutes and a perfect way of getting your little ones to eat some greens. Serve with a dip or use as a sandwich filler.

High protein tofu and Greek style yoghurt based frozen yoghurt recipe with just over 100 calories and 9g of protein per serving.

Pomegranate Quinoa Salad
This recipe uses all but one of my five ingredients this month. It has a kale base with cooked broccoli and quinoa, fresh pomegranate seeds, and an orange balsamic dressing. Due to the quinoa and cooked broccoli, this is a largely warm salad, perfect for those between season days when you’re not quite ready for a fully cool meal.

Orange & Passionfruit Breakfast Smoothie
Delicious seasonal smoothie recipe. Serve as is, add a scoop of protein for a more balanced, quick breakfast, or serve as a nutritious pairing to your breakfast of choice.

I hope you enjoy! Which of the above are you looking forward to trying the most?
Until next time,
Sophie
