Last year, I had a genius idea to share my recent food favouites/ recent discoveries every month. And that very quickly came crashing down when I realised that there aren’t actually enough new discoveries each month to make that viable. However, so far in 2022, I have actually discovered a few things I deem worth talking about. Spoiler: It’s mostly chocolate.
I’d like to start by saying I’m not even sure how I have enough to talk about here because I’m sure I spent most of January complaining about the lack of effort most companies seemed to be making with Veganuary this year. Does anyone else feel like it isn’t as big as it was a few years ago, or is that just me?
2022 Food Favourites
Cadbury Plant Chocolate Bar
90g £2-2.50

The last time I did one of these was back in October and it featured the Galaxy Cookie Crumble bar. And I’d like you to disregard anything good I said about that one because since then Cadbury Plant launched and that changed everything.
Cadbury Plant is by far my new favourite easy access vegan chocolate bar. And by that, I mean it’s my favourite made by a mainstream brand that’s available in a regular supermarket, not an expensive free from only brand that needs to be ordered online or hunted down.
Now, is this bar still ridiculously expensive compared to regular Dairy Milk? Yes. Am I still extremely angry with Cadbury for milk magically and oh so conveniently reappearing on the ingredients list of one of the only affordable and easily accessible chocolate bars in the country just before this bar launched? Absolutely. Does any of that make this any less delicious? Unfortunately, not.
Lindt Vegan Hazelnut
100g £3

I know I was just saying Cadbury Plant is the best thing ever, but I feel like wanting a bar of plain Cadbury and Lindt is a different kind of mood. The Lindt is thinner and ever so slightly more premium (barely if you do cost per 100g), but it’s different. This one is very similar packaging and cost wise to the Galaxy, and I have to say I much prefer this one to the vegan Galaxy offerings.
Trek Power Cocoa Orange
55g (1 bar) £1.75

When Trek launched this higher protein, more chocolaty range, I was very quick to try the peanut one and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, the range contains coconut milk, so it’s not really something I can eat, unless it’s a very rare treat. But they’ve just added a new cocoa orange flavour and I had to try it at least once. Can confirm the new addition is just as good as the original two flavours.
Kallo Tomato Salsa, Lime & Coriander Veggie Cakes
122g £2.50
This one feels random, and I wouldn’t typically mention it. But I feel like things like crackers etc are something that often becomes incredibly boring and repetitive when it comes to gluten free options. I saw these on an intro offer and decided to pick some up, and it wasn’t until I realised that I’d ordered some in something like 4/6 of my last shops that it was worth a mention. I think these ones have a great flavour balance where they’re Good enough to eat alone but not to the point where they’re overpowering if you want to add something to them.
Doisy & Dam Dark Chocolate Good Eggs
75g £2

Yes, we have vegan mini eggs. Kind of, they’re a vegan dark chocolate egg, so not a vegan milk chocolate ‘Mini Eggs’ copycat, but the shell is pretty much the same and they taste a lot like how I’d expect a dark chocolate ‘Mini Egg’ would. A great alternative to the OG.
The White Rabbit The Sizzlin Jackfruit
£3.75 per pizza

When I ranked the best gluten free pizza bases, The White Rabbit won by a mile. And I’ve been trying jackfruit in a few different recipes recently, so wanted to give this one a go. I’ve had The White Rabbit pizzas before, but the others come fresh and you’re able to freeze them if you wish and this Co-op exclusive one is only available frozen. Now, I don’t think the bases are quite as nice from frozen, but the toppings on this one are my favourite from the range. And this one retails for £3.75 and the fresh ones are around the £5 mark, so it’s a far more affordable option, especially for a GF base.
Have you tried any of these options? How do you feel about the recent chocolate launches?
Until next time,
Sophie
Everything looks so yummy. Thanks for sharing!
