The seasonal nibbles on offer are usually things like pretzels and crackers, but nuts are usually a safer option for those who are vegan and/ or gluten intolerant. Aside from nuts (obviously), this recipe is free from all other major allergens.
Nutritional Information
I know with nuts it’s normal to keep picking at the dish until they’re suddenly gone. But according to average serving sizes, this recipe should serve four. So, the following nutritional information is based on a quarter of a recipe.
Each serving contains 212 calories, 2.5g of fibre and 3.5g of protein. In terms of vitamins and minerals, each serving provides 10% of the recommended daily amount of both vitamin E and vitamin B1. And, of course, nuts are a great source of healthy fats. a quarter of these recipe provides half of your required daily omega 6 and over 80% of the recommended daily amount of omega 3.
Although, if you’re following a plant based diet, you’ll likely need more than 100% of your daily omega 3 to absorb the correct amount.

How to Store and Does it Keep?
If you can manage not to eat the whole batch in one go, after cooling, store your candied nuts in an airtight container, preferably in a cool place. If stored correctly, they should last for 2 weeks.
Ingredients Choices
When I think of Christmas nutty snacks, pecans always come to mind so I wanted them to feature heavily in this recipe. To make my candied nuts recipe, I used half a cup of pecans, roughly a quarter cup of walnuts, and a small amount of almonds and hazelnuts to make a cup total. I love the pecans in this recipe and think it would be great if you wanted to use pecans exclusively, but any nuts of your choice should be fine.
If you’re wanting to calculate this recipe with a metric ratio, I used a total of 110g of nuts in this recipe.

Orange Candied Nuts Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup mixed nuts
- 1/8 cup water
- 1/6 cup caster sugar
- ½ tbsp vegan butter
- 2 TSP orange extract
- ½ TSP ground cinnamon
- ¼ TSP nutmeg
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 175°c and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.
-
Mix together nuts in a large bowl.
-
Heat the water, butter, and sugar in a saucepan over low-medium heat until the butter is melted. Stir in the spices and orange extract. Then, pour the mixture over the nuts in the bowl and stir to coat.
-
Move the nuts to the cooking sheet. Spread out evenly. Try to drain as much of the liquid as possible while placing them on the tray. You’ll likely still have a lot of liquid left in the bowl.
-
Bake the nuts for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, remove from oven, and transfer nuts back to bowl to stir one more time. This time, the vast majority of the liquid should be gone. Place nuts back on baking tray, and bake for 5 more minutes.
-
Wait until the nuts have fully cooled before you tuck in.
Serve and enjoy!
