AD | I donโt know about you, but when it comes to Boxing Day, we only really eat nibbles. When Shwartz recently sent me their Chip Seasoning, I thought this post would be a great way to play with it, to make some Boxing Day recipes that are in the same flavour family. Of course, this is chip seasoningโฆand you could 100% use them just to make chips. But I wanted to experiment a little. And, hopefully, this post can give you a little inspiration for how you can use your seasonings for things other than what theyโre designed for.ย
The seasoning is paprika and onion based, with some smoked paprika too. So, I was thinking it would work well with both smoky and spicy dishes. I was going to make some chips (obviously), but then I thought itโs Christmas, so we should have some roast potatoes. For anyone thinking they had enough/ too many roast potatoes on Christmas Day, I assure you thereโs no such thing as too many potatoes. Especially at Christmas.ย I opted to serve them with some lentil & butternut squash bites, and some roasted chickpeas to nibble on throughout the day.ย ย
Boxing Day Bites Recipes
Iโve made sure all of these recipes can be cooked at the same temperature if youโd like to serve them together. All GF & vegan friendly.ย
Roast Potatoesย ย

You can make these skin on or off, I opted to leave mine on, but do whatever youโd prefer. Cooking times will be the same.ย ย
Ingredientsย
- 3ย mediumย to large baking potatoes, cubedย
- ยฝ tbspย Shwartzย chip seasoningย
- 1 tbsp flour, Iย usedย GFย oat, but use any neutral tasting flour you have to hand.ย ย
- 1 tbsp sunflower oilย ย
Instructionsย
- Preheat fan oven to 190ยฐc. Onceย oven is up to temperature, drizzle the oil across a large baking tray and heat in the oven for 5-10 minutes.ย ย ย ย
- Peel and chop potatoes into small chunks.ย ย ย
- Boil potatoes forย approximatelyย 10 minutes. They should still be hard but softening slightly around the edges.ย ย ย
- Drain potatoes and shake the colander back and forth a few times (repeat this if necessary) to โfluffโ potatoes up slightly.ย ย
- Sprinkle with the flour then shake a few more times to evenly coat the potatoes.ย ย
- Place potatoes on preheated tray, carefully, the oil may spit back. Then turn a few times to evenly coat theย potatoesย in the oil. Sprinkle over the chip seasoning.ย ย
- Roast for 15 minutes, then turn and roast for a further 15 minutes before turning again. Place back in the oven for a further 10 minutes untilย potatoesย are crispy on the outside and fluffy in the centre.ย ย ย
Squash & Lentil Bitesย ย

Serves: 8 ballsย
Ingredientsย
- ยฝ medium butternut squash, peeled and chopped into small cubesย ย
- 2 heaped tsp chip seasoningย ย
- Drizzle of olive oilย
- ยฝ cup red lentil flourย ย
- ยผ cup oatsย
- Black pepper to tasteย
- 2 cloves garlicย
Instructionsย
- Preheat oven to 190ยฐc. At the squash to a bowl with the olive oil and chip seasoning and toss to evenly coat the cubes. Place in the centre of the oven for 35-40 minutes until cooked but not yet crispy.ย ย
- Once the squash is cooked, add to a food processor with all of the other remaining ingredients. Process on high until the mix is smooth. It should have a similar consistency to falafels at this point.ย ย
- Take roughly a tablespoon of mix and shape into small balls and place on a baking tray. Repeat until all the mix is used up, it should create around 8 balls.ย ย
- Place the baking tray in the centre of the oven and cook for 20-25 minutes until the outsides of the balls are crisp and golden and theyโre hot in the centre.ย ย
ย
Smoked Roasted Chickpeasย

Ingredientsย
- 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsedย ย
- ยฝ tsp chilli powderย ย
- 1 tbspย Shwartzย Chip Seasoningย ย
- Crack of black pepperย
Instructionsย ย
- Add chickpeas and all seasonings to a bowl and stir until the chickpeas are evenly coated. Place on a baking tray, spread evenly so they donโt overlap. Place baking tray in the centre of the oven.ย ย
- If making these alone, cook on 220ยฐcย for 20 minutes. I cooked mine with the squash balls on 190ยฐcย for 25 minutes.ย ย
Serve and enjoy!ย ย
Do you guys like the sound of these recipes? What kind of Boxing Day nibbles do you usually eat in your house?ย ย

Roasted potatoes, well seasoned with salt and pepper, are one of my favorite foods. I eat them with ketchup, ranch dressing . . . anything. Well caramelized, it is hard to go wrong with them.

These are some great “bites”! We don’t celebrate/recognise Boxing Day here in the US, but I’d say we do generally spend that day relaxing & having all the leftovers from the day before! x

Boxing Day usually involves left-overs. Sometimes a salad with left-over turkey and roast ham, sometimes left-over turkey, chips and gravy! ๐
Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful time over the festive period. Merry Christmas! ๐
