I love a dessert inspired breakfast. And I really love dessert inspired smoothie bowls. The main reason for that is that you can still have a fundamentally healthy meal that tastes like your favourite dessert, and who wouldn’t want that? This apple pie smoothie bowl recipe is no exception to that. Warm spices, a hint of vanilla and all of the familiar flavours of your favourite dessert wrapped up in a healthy, balanced breakfast recipe.

Nutritional Information

This recipe contains protein, healthy fats from the avocado, and carbohydrates from the fresh fruit – so this smoothie bowl has all of the core elements of a healthy meal that should keep you full and satisfied until your next meal, while tasting like dessert.
Without any toppings, this recipe contains 30g of protein and 14g of fibre. As for vitamins and minerals, each serving contains 30% of the recommended daily amount of B2, a quarter of your daily B12 and 20% of your daily folate. Along with 40% of your daily calcium (providing you’re opting for a fortified milk alternative).
My protein powder of choice for this apple pie smoothie recipe was the BOXD Vanilla Vegan, which is vitamin fortified, but I included the nutrient details for generic vanilla vegan protein assuming that most aren’t fortified.
Substitutions
The only soy in this recipe as I made it was the vanilla soy milk, so it’s easy to swap out the milk for another dairy alternative if you’re looking for a soy free recipe.
And I used unsweetened apple sauce for the sake of making this recipe ever so slightly healthier, feel free to sub that for sweetened if you have a sweeter tooth or can’t get your hands on any unsweetened applesauce.
I haven’t specified a variety of apples down below, so you can use your favourites/ whatever you have to hand, but if anyone is curious, I used Braeburns to make this recipe.
How to store and does it keep?
I wouldn’t recommend trying to make this in advance or storing it. As it contains a combination of fresh and frozen ingredients to make the ideal texture, there isn’t really a way to store this to keep it fresh and the correct texture.
