AD| Whether you’re running a blog, an online shop, or some other sort of business website, there’s nothing more valuable and integral to its success than the connection that you build with your visitors and users. There are different ways to build a connection that keeps them coming back. Whether that’s a strong brand image, or letting your personality shine through, there are many ways to go about personalising your website. Let’s be honest, there are probably many websites in the same niche as yours so the only thing truly unique about your website is you/ your team.
Personalising Your Website
Make it a big part of your branding
First of all, you need to look at the name, the design, and the general vibe that your website gives off. If you want to learn more about making a blog rebrand, there are tips here to help with just that. You can make your blog/ brand obviously yours by using your own name as your domain. If that’s not your thing, you can try to make sure that your personality is put front and centre. And show your face! I’m sure many bloggers will agree that it’s nice to know who you’re talking to when you’re leaving a comment. Having a photo of yourself on the front page of the site is enough, you don’t need your face everywhere if you don’t want to.
Introduce yourself
This is related to the last one. You can’t expect people to build a personal connection with someone that they know nothing about. Having a niche like mine, this isn’t always the easiest, but it’s worth making an effort to be a person, not just some text on a screen.
They can infer bits of your personality from across your posts throughout the website, but you can ensure that you make the best possible first impression yourself. Take a look at some About Me page examples that explain, briefly, what your motivations and interests are, without going too much into detail or rambling. A nice, concise introduction of who you are and why you started your website can be enough.
Be an on-screen presence
If you’re relying entirely on the written word, then it can be a little harder for people to get a sense of personality. Your voice and your face can help you sell that connection much more effectively. As such, consider using multimedia like video more often on your website. If you’re running a business or providing webinar-like lessons, you can even look at how to add video chat software to your website. If you can turn the experience into an interactive one and have actual chats with your audience, that’s going to be all the better.
This might not seem necessary for bloggers in the same way, but you can work on that using tools like Instagram stories and utilising other platforms.
Stay in touch
Ensure that your website is connected to embeds your social media accounts. And I can’t stress this point enough. If you’re in a similar situation to me where your niche doesn’t always make it the easiest to let your personality shine through
More and more people are using social media to follow their favourite content products, as well as to have their own say. It’s a space that allows you to be a little more informal and a little more casual with your audience. If you’re not on social media, then it’s time to learn about how to use social media to drive engagements with your website. There are very few bloggers or businesses who wouldn’t benefit from at least some kind of social media presence.
Giving your website a personal touch is not easy. Not everyone feels comfortable being their true selves when starting out online either. However, it is something you can learn, too, so keep the tips above in mind and keep trying.
Until next time,
Sophie
I definitely think that using social media and connecting with other bloggers and site-owners on those spaces as well makes for so much more connection! I’ve made some real friends through a combination of blogging & social media, and it’s so great to not only share my personality, but to see those of my friends shine through as well. Loved this x
Thanks for the tips, I feel one of my biggest struggles has been on the engagement/growth side of things.
I’m really into the writing, but haven’t taken much time to really get my work out there to share.
I’m finding it really beneficial to pay more attention to other people’s work to improve my craft and get new ideas.
These are great tips! I do like that you can use social media to be more casual with your audience and get to know them too! It definitely is nice to be reading a blog and feeling like you know the blogger a little bit, may that be through their social media or from seeing their picture so it puts a face to the name! xx
This is such a great post, thank you for sharing!
