So, remember my last health unwrapped post? I said that having chocolate as my ingredient of the month made me go a bit crazy with fun recipes? Well, the Nutella cookies made me think of Nutella… everything. And I ended up with this vegan Nutella milkshake recipe.
I had all sorts of ideas for what I could include in this one. Was I going to include a hazelnut Vego bar? Chunks of chocolate? Hazelnut butter AND vegan Nutella? Maybe. Possibly even all of it. To bring myself back down to earth a bit, I googled some non-vegan Nutella milkshake recipes. And I was really disappointed. Some of them were so basic: vanilla ice cream, Nutella and milk? I mean, yes, it has all of the essentials, but that wasn’t what I had in mind.
When I think if milkshakes, I think of this shop I used to go to sometimes when I was in my tween years. If you’d ordered a Reece’s one, for example, there’d be two of three peanut butter cups blended with your ice cream, some more peanut butter, milk, topped with lashings of cream and probably half a peanut butter cup on top as decoration. Sickly, undoubtedly. But that’s the vibe I wanted.
Is this recipe healthy? Not at all. Should this be consumed regularly? Definitely not. But am I about to throw in a very small sub-heading listing the healthy elements of this recipe anyway? If course I am.

Nutritional information
I’m going to spare you the talk of calories and fat etc, we all know this isn’t good for you. But even ‘bad’ things can have some healthy things going for them. There’s 2 tbsp of raw cacao in here, some hazelnuts and fortified dairy alternatives, and they all sound like foods that have some good stuff going for them.
So, this recipe contains a surprisingly high 21g of fibre, 14g of protein and just under half of the recommended daily amount of calcium. It also contains half of your daily B2, a third of your daily B12 and just under 20% of your daily amount of vitamin E. The total iron in this recipe will vary depending on your vegan Nutella of choice, but it should contain at least 3mg of iron, which is just over a fifth of the amount recommended for adult women pre-menopause and just over a third of the RDA for men, and women over the age of 50.
Vegan Nutella Milkshake Recipe
A thick and creamy vegan Nutella milkshake recipe with vegan Nutella, hazelnuts, chocolate hazelnut ice cream and topped with vegan cream.

Vegan Nutella Milkshake Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 scoops vegan chocolate hazelnut ice cream I used Alpro
- 1 cup chocolate soy milk or other chocolate non-dairy milk
- ⅛ cup of hazelnuts roughly 8 hazelnuts
- 2 tbsp raw cacao powder
- 2 tbsp vegan chocolate hazelnut spread
- Vegan cream to serve
Instructions
-
Add all of the ingredients, other than the cream, to a blender and blend until smooth. I recommend leaving your ice cream out for a few minutes before trying to scoop, so it’s creamier rather than hard, and easier to measure. Pour into a glass/ jar and top with your desired amount of vegan cream.
Serve and enjoy!

Until next time,

14g of protein!?!? Can this replace my protein shake after I lift weights?? :’). It only comes about 7-10 g short of that, haha. This looks delishhh. We don’t have any nutella in the pantry atm, but I think it’s time to replenish the stock!
I love a milkshake, when I think of milkshakes though I’m probably a lot more boring and think of the more bland and simple ones haha. My favourite milkshake is just a banana milkshake! Although I do love a chocolate one too, so a nutella one sounds delicious xx
I’ve been really in the mood for milkshakes lately! Definitely think I need to give this one a try!
Oo! Chocolate milkshake = deliciousness! Loving the looks of this cold drink since it is finally heating up here in Virginia and making me scrounge around in my freezer for frozen fruit to blend into a smoothie.
Unrelated side note: I love your nails.
Yum! It is great that you’ve made some delicious recipes with chocolate. I am a huge fan of nutella – any of that nutty taste. It has been a hot minute since I made a milkshake. They are just packed in calories! It’s great that you found some nice vegan ingredients to make it happen!
