I know ‘green’ isn’t always the most appetising option, but I did a green smoothie recipe in last year’s Recipe A Day May series, and it turned out to be the second most popular of the series. If you need receipts to believe that, I’ll happily share, I was shocked too. That one was a fruity green smoothie; this year’s variety is all about health. This omega booster green smoothie recipe is an easy way to get some healthy fats into your diet. It contains apples to give it an element of sweetness and lime juice to make it fresh and zesty. I promise it doesn’t taste too green.
Due to the higher fat content, this is quite filling so would probably do as a light breakfast. If you’re like me and would prefer to actually eat something solid, you would likely only need something small on the side with this. I left the milk option as ‘non-dairy of choice’ depending on how sweet you’d like it. I had mine with regular almond original as that’s my go-to. But if sweetness isn’t a high priority, you could switch it up for an unsweetened alternative. Or, if sweetness is a high priority, you could sub for something like vanilla soy. The avocado and seeds make the smoothie quite thick, which is why half of the liquid is water!
Nutritional Information
This recipe contains both omega 3 and 6 from various sources. The avocado helps keep the recipe thick and creamy (you can’t taste it) and provides 7% of your daily omega 3 and 9% of your omega 6. pumpkin seeds make up the bulk of your omega 6, offering 22%. Chia seeds provide over 100% of your RDA for omega 3, with an additional 6% from the spinach too.
Aside from healthy fats, this smoothie provides several other vitamins too. The spinach provides over 200% of the minimum vitamins A and K, and 40% of the retinol equivalent vitamin A. In total, this recipe also provides 40% of the RDA of vitamin C too.
Omega Booster Green Smoothie Recipe
This recipe is dairy free, gluten free and vegan. It can also be soy free and nut free depending on non-dairy milk choices.

I like the sound of this, I have had a few green smoothies, I’m a big fan of the Naked range, and their green smoothie is my favourite one – not too sure how healthy they actually are though. I feel like I need to experiment more and try some more smoothies.

great recipe sophie! i’ve started to dabble into smoothies because i know that’s a great way to get your veggies and fruits in. personally since i’m still so new to them i would probably add more fruits to make it a bit sweeter, maybe strawberry apple? i love that you added in spinach to get your greens in. xx

Ooooh I a, 100% going to try this! I usually like to have a smoothie for breakfast, and it’s usually filling enough, so I think this alone would be fine for me.
I’ve been thinking of putting different things in my smoothies, besides yogurt, strawberries and milk and this sounds amazing. I will have to give it a try! Also, I never really thought to use apples. I don’t know why.

Sounds healthy and tasty. I love avocado, but don’t usually put spinach in a smoothy. http://www.retirestyletravel.com
