Everyone who has been here for a while will know exactly what these posts entail, and that I love doing them. Mme vs you is where I look back at a group of posts and see which were the most viewed and compare that list with the list of my personal favourites to see if there’s any overlap. I do two a year, one at the end of the year and one at the end of Recipe a Day May, and now it’s mid June, it’s time for my Me vs You Recipe a Day May 2023 recap.
Before we get into it, I always like to start with a couple of predictions. Honestly, I have no idea what the standouts are going to be this year. In my personal life, I’ve been massively into savoury stuff recently, and the sweet stuff has taken more effort than usual to come up with because it’s just not what I’m into right now, and I think that’s clouding my judgement a little this year.
With that in mind, I think the protein grain salad might be up there. I’d like to see the spiced cauliflower soup, but I know that’s unlikely, and maybe the butter chickpeas.
ME VS YOU RECIPE A DAY MAY 2023
MY TOP 5 RECIPES MAY 2023
As always, my top 5 aren’t in any particular order, just 5 that I either really enjoyed making, loved the taste of the most, or the pictures make me want to eat another serving right now.
Protein Grain Salad
This was one of the first recipes I made for this May, and I made it for the first time last May, so this is probably my most eaten recipe of this Recipe A Day May. It’s nice and easy, has an abundance of vitamins and minerals. I love broccoli, edamame and quinoa (yes, really) so it contains a few of my favourite foods, and the creamy tahini dressing pairs beautifully.

Baked Squash Gnocchi
This one was also made last May and has also been consumed a tonne. The garlic butter sauce is rich, and the roasted pecans add some delicious healthy fats, but the carby comfort food still contains one of your five a day from the roasted butternut squash.

Chocolate Chickpeas
A treat, kinda healthy ish (compared to a typical chocolate snack), a little protein and easy to make. What’s not to love?

Spiced Cauliflower Soup
I don’t know how to explain why I love this recipe so much, but I made it using a few ingredients I don’t always love (speaking about the spices, I love cauliflower) and managed to combine them in a dish I really enjoy. I already know this one won’t be in the top 5 – it’s a fairly simple soup, and my reasons for loving this one is very personal to my own palette, but I’m looking forward to making this one a few more times come autumn/ winter.

Creamy Harissa Beans
Harissa is basically my favourite seasoning at this point, I want to throw it in just about anything and everything I can get away with, and it works so well in this dish. One pot, quick prep and cook time, a source of protein and a creamy sauce with my favourite seasoning. What’s not to love?

THE TOP 5 MOST VIEWED RECIPES
Like every year, I haven’t looked at my stats properly prior to making this post. I’ve of course seen one or two do well on social media, or noticed a lot of traffic on certain posts on certain days – but I’ve avoided my analytics as much as possible so this can be a complete shock.
5. Easy Mediterranean Vegetable Tarts
This makes total sense to me. The word easy is in the title, there’s a protein source and vegetables and it still has the pastry for an element of comfort food.

4. Creamy Harissa Beans
Happy to see one of my favourites make the top spots this year, and I can see why this one made it. It’s a quick one, only needs the one pan and none of the ingredients are complicated. Combined with the fact it can be eaten alone or served with a tonne of other things, I can see how this one has appeal across the board.

3. Vegan Carrot Fritters
I’m extremely surprised by this one. This was far from the best in terms of photography, and the dish itself is simple (maybe that’s why it was popular), but I wasn’t expecting this one to be anywhere near the top.

2. Lemon Breakfast Pots
This was quite surprising to me. But I suppose this is partly down to the weather starting to warm up around the time this was posted, and it’s a good fresh/ light breakfast option for people who want something fruity but not insanely sweet.

1. Vegan Nduja Pasta
I don’t know why I didn’t predict this one to be honest. Pasta dishes typically do well, especially if it’s a vegan version of an already popular non-vegan dish. This recipe is extremely quick to prep and only takes one pan, so I can see why this one went down well

Overall
So, all in, there wasn’t a great deal of overlap this year and I’m quite shocked by some of the ones that did manage to take the top spot. But that’s the fun in doing these roundups, there’s always a surprise or two in there. And as for my predictions, we don’t need to talk about those this year…
