Welcome to my first what I eat in a day in self isolation! Now, I’m sure those of you who have read this style of post from me previously will know that I already cook a lot, and work from home, so is this one any different? Kind if, not really. To be this is different as I’m being more mindful of what I’m using and how easy those items are to replace – just popping out for more chickpeas/ beans because I used the last can isn’t that easy right now. While the meals may look similar to you, I’ll be explaining why I’m having it and if there was another first choice that didn’t happen.
Plant Sourced
Before we get into the WIEAD, Tuesdays are usually for Plant Sourced recipes. As I mentioned in my previous post, that doesn’t seem like the best plan right now. Two Plant Sourced Posts in March haven’t happened, so I’ll do another month of calcium later in the year. April’s Plat Sourced Recipes will go ahead. As I mentioned in my last post, iron is the planned theme for April and with high iron foods being things like beans & lentils, that’s probably more beneficial right now.
Ordering
So far, I haven’t had too many hiccups when it comes to ordering my food. A few things out of stock and obviously there are limits on the number of certain things you can order from most supermarkets right now. I didn’t realise how many chickpeas I go through until I was told I can only order three.
What I Eat In A Day in Self Isolation
9:30am – Pre breakfast

You guys know the drill by now, I don’t really eat on a morning. On this day, I had a tiny amount of granola, maybe a quarter cup of a cup, to snack on during the morning.
12:40pm – Breakfast

Okay, I know it’s lunchtime, but my appetite is nowhere to be seen today so I held off. Breakfast today was some chocolate oats. I’m working on a ‘dessert for breakfast’ blog post and this one is for that. I’m trying to make the recipes seem like dessert but still be relatively healthy and balanced so this one has some chia seeds and strawberries with a light drizzle of PBfit.
3:30pm – Snack

Tried a Schar GF digestive for the first time. Good texture, nice taste but doesn’t really taste like a regular digestive either. A handful of fruit and nut mix and half a cupcake (it was shared, that’s why only half). I’d made afternoon tea (post on that soon) the day before and the cupcake was leftover.
7:15pm – Dinner

This is where the current food situation starts to show. The plan right now is to buy what I need for recipe posts, then just add essential vegetables that can be used in several dishes to make up the meals for the rest of the week. Lots of peppers for things like pasta, casseroles, chili, salads…you get it. This week I’d wanted to add some stir fry stuff but couldn’t get my hands on everything I needed. Instead, I got a Waitrose edamame bean mix with a soy & ginger dressing and mixed that with some tenderstem, a pepper and black bean noodles. You guys know that I love these high protein noodles/ pastas (*cough* lentil penne) to easily add protein to my meals, and they’re a great alternative now I can’t eat gluten.
8-30-9pm (ish) – Chocolate

I was presented with these crunchie bites. They’re basically mini vegan honeycomb in dairy free chocolate, and I nibbled on about half a bag to end my day. The day that started and ended with chocolate, love that balance.
What are your diets looking like with the changes in routine and food availability? Are you managing to eat as usual or have you had to make some adjustments?
Until next time,
Sophie
When everything first erupted that we were ‘possibly’ going into lockdown, supermarkets were a nightmare!! My mum had to go to three different supermarkets to get, pretty much, our normal meals.
I always love reading your recipes and want to try some new things, I need to go through and pick some out to have a go at. I’m looking at moving out (hopefully) nearer the end of this year and really want to eat as healthy as possible.
The chocolate oats look delicious!
Stay safe!

Great post!! Im struggling to get GF pasta so need an alternative, also been a struggle to get flour and soya milk it’s absolutely insane!!! xx
To be honest theres not a lot that we’ve not been able to get when shopping, except for pasta which is what i tend to eat a lot of so it’s just finding different substitues so i’ve been eating a lot more rice and tend to snack a lot more! My routine is so different at the moment that my meal times are all over the place!
I love that kind of snacks❤
I love your meal plan Sophie! Everything is so nutritious! x

I’m feeling those chocolate vibes! Personally, I’m having the hardest time finding quinoa or any kind of rice/grain in our stores here in the states. Maybe I’ll look for chickpeas instead. Again, I can never get enough of those chocolate oats, so yummy! Gonna have to make me some for tomorrow.

After the first crazy weekend when everyone stocked up, I can get pretty much everything I need for our usual meals. The difference staying home is that I cook more and a bit more varied than usual. Waiting for your next posts for some more inspiration.

We’ve managed to carry on mostly as usual with food – for a couple of weeks we couldn’t get a lot of the tinned beans and soy “meat” that we’d usually use but we had some spares in and just made do with what we could. A few things are coming back into stock now in tesco as well, last time I went I could get soy mince for the first time in almost a month!
I looove the look of that last snack you had, I’m a total sucker for a crunchy bar and that looks great.
Those chocolate oats look AMAZING, I think you may have just inspired a new breakfast idea for me. I absolutely love peanut butter too, so it’s an instant win for me! Noodles and veg are perfect for dinner, I’ve never tried the high protein version though, I will have to remember to look out for these next time I’m shopping (fingers crossed they are still in stock!). Thanks for sharing Sophie, your posts always inspire me to try something new! <3 xx

Oh wow!! Those crunchie bites have me drooling! They sound so yummy! I’ll have to search around for them. I’m really want to try new things (considering I can’t get what I usually eat) so the lentil pasta is on my list too!
Now is a time more then ever to get creative with meal planning, and your alternative noodle stir fry sounds yummy! I love the look of those chocolate oats; they look so creamy! And I do not know why, but one look at that cupcake made me hungry. 🙂
I’m loving weetabix with soya milk, strawberries and bananas atm! I really need to try oat milk as everyone’s saying it’s amazing! I like Almond milk but it’s not the best, so I hope I prefer oat milk! x
well damn girl! i wish i was eating this well 🙂 xx
I really, really, really want to try chocolate oats! I’m currently mixing up my breakfasts a bit and I’m getting more into having sweet things for breakfast whereas usually I’m firmly on the savoury side of things! xxx
I need to start eating well again! Lockdown has made me comfort eat so much x
I always love your what I eat in a day posts so this was no exception! The crunchie bits sound delicious xx
