AD – Gifted | We’ve been chatting about vegan protein for the last two months now, and over the last few weeks, I’ve shared a few breakfast recipes using vegan protein powder. These recipes have shown how you can add protein to a meal rather than drinking protein shakes, like my protein pancakes recipe. But what if you don’t want protein in a meal but just want a boost of protein while going about your day?
I’m no stranger to protein powder, and I genuinely enjoy the creamy texture it can add to certain recipes. I always add some to my smoothie bowls, and at this point, that’s more for the taste than the added grams of protein. However, I hate drinking regular protein. It doesn’t matter if it’s mixed with milk or water, regardless of the flavour, I just don’t like it. For me, it has to be in something edible. But if I want a little protein boost and I’m not hungry, or I need something to grab and go, that isn’t exactly ideal.
But MyProtein has a new range perfect for situations just like that. After launching clear whey last year, they now have two flavours of vegan protein in the clear vegan protein range.
MyProtein Clear Vegan Protein Powder
What’s ‘Clear Vegan Protein’?
It’s protein powder without the thick/ creamy element of regular protein powder. It’s supposed to be light and refreshing, like a juice. It sounded great when I first read about it, but given my feelings about drinking regular protein powder, I was sceptical.
So, it’s a protein that tastes refreshing like a juice, but it also has added vitamins. A juicy vitamin water with protein?
It only has 10g of protein per serving, less than regular protein, but a serving size is smaller. Per 100g the protein content is very similar to regular protein powder so you could use it in larger quantities if you wanted to. To me, 10g sounded like a perfect amount for those on the go situations. For reference, that’s the same amount as a Trek bar, so it’s a great substitute for a protein boosting snack if you’re not hungry.
| Per Serving | NRV | |
| Niacin | 8 mg | (50%*) |
| Pantothenic Acid | 3 mg | (50%*) |
| Riboflavin | 0.7 mg | (50%*) |
| Vitamin B6 | 0.7 mg | (50%*) |
| Thiamin | 0.55 mg | (50%*) |
| Folic Acid | 100µg | (50%*) |
| Biotin | 25µg | (50%*) |
| Vitamin B12 | 1.25µg | (50%*) |
How Does It Taste?
By now I think we can all agree that the concept sounds great, but how does it taste?

The first time I tried this I was still unsure about drinking the protein alone, so I mixed the strawberry flavour with some hazelnut milk. Sweeter than it’s supposed to be? Absolutely. Nicer than I was expecting? Much to my surprise, yes. Even though it was milky (obviously), I still found the texture to be quite light and refreshing. And it mixes really well, no lumps at all and no grainy texture (you get that a lot with vegan protein).
Great for summer?
After a pleasant first experience, I tried the lemon and lime with just water and I actually preferred it! Of the two, the lemon and lime is my favourite flavour, especially with water. It tastes fresh, I know that’s the point. But that isn’t a familiar taste when it comes to protein. It really is just like drinking some flavoured water, with all of the added benefits.

As we enter spring and summer, I think the lemon & lime will be a great addition to your regular water bottle to stay hydrated with an added vitamin boost.
Have you ever tried a clear protein? Which flavour would you most like to try?
Until next time,
Sophie
Hmm…will have to look into this as it sounds much better than the thick ones that I’m not a big fan of!! x
Texture is something that does put me off protein powders – some of the ones I have tried, I might as well have just poured it right into my mouth! This sounds a lot better though!

This is super interesting! I’ve never tried anything like this but will have to look into it more
thanks for this article. Im Always in search for new Protein so this post today saved me a lot of Research actually. thank you so much.
This looks really interesting. I’m not much for strawberry flavours, but the lemon and lime sounds delicious. Did it feel “thicker” to drink? I sometimes find these powders make the water a bit thicker and I really don’t enjoy that.
Thanks for sharing
Oh very interesting darling
That sounds great

This was all new to me – thank you for sharing!
This sounds like such a great protein powder! I haven’t heard of it before, thanks so much for sharing all about it!
We’ve been looking for a good protein powder so this might be a good one to try. Love that there’s different flavors.
Ooo!! I didn’t even knew that clear vegan existed! xD I’m the same as you. I can’t handle normal protein because it just tastes weird. This reminds me a little of cordial juice but protein-packed! The lemon and lime sounds gorgeous!
I definitely need this as I don’t get a lot of protein through my veggie diet! I do get some protein (of course) but not enough so I’m going to purchase these ASAP x
I’ve never had anything like this before but I completely agree that texture makes such a huge difference when it comes to drinks! I hate anything thats super creamy and the thought of that texture being combined with a gritty texture sounds like my worst nightmare! I’m glad you’ve found something that avoids those two textures – the lemon and lime flavour sounds great as well 🙂 x

The packaging is really pretty too! Worth a try! Thanks for sharing your tips in using it.
Oo this sounds interesting! Texture is a big thing for me with drinks I can tolerate the taste of things but I like a thin water like texture so this actually sounds really great! X
I’m so down for the clear protein! I didn’t even know it was a thing. Thick milky proteins make me feel sick, even though their dairy free in think my mind still thinks its milk!
This was interesting – I’ve never heard of protein powder being described as light and refreshing. I’ll have to give it a try!
It took me a while to get used to, but now I really love protein powders. I’ve found them a great addition to my fitness regime. I love all the added vitamins this product contains, I’ll definitely be giving this one a try. Thank you for sharing xxx
I always love a strawberry taste. I have tried something like this before.

It is great that there are vegan protein options out there! Protein powder is great as a supplement. I know I don’t consume enough protein from other sources, so protein powder helps a ton. I like that it is packed with nutrients as well. I need to give this a try! I have been using plant-based protein lately, but it hits different. Thanks for sharing!

I think the lemon and lime would be my favourite, too. I looooove citrus flavours! It’s so great you’ve finally found a protein powder that you like drinking. I haven’t had a protein drink in awhile but I do remember them not being exactly nice!

I don’t do dairy protein powders well but hated the creaminess and smell of the vegan powder I’ve tried. This might be something to consider.
I love protein boosters ❤
I’ve never had to look into anything like this but it’s great you’ve found ones that work for you, and being able to add it to water is good, it’s so important to drink a lot and stay hydrated! 🙂
Hope that you are having a great weekend 🙂 We spent the day with my mum yesterday shopping the sales for the leap day (and getting some great toy bargains we’ve put away for the kids birthdays!)
This sounds like a great idea to get more vitamins and protein into your diet is a healthy way. I agree, the lemon and lime one sounds lovely, especially for Summer! x
Ooh this sounds like a great idea! The lemon and lime one sounds lovely, that’s one of my favourite flavours xx
