AD | Raise your hands – how many of you have ever felt your hands have been personally victimised by the Coronavirus handwashing/ sanitizing etc? I hope at least 80% of you are raising your hands with me. I know wash your hands and happy birthday feels like a long time ago now, and I’m sure a lot of people relaxed a little on that routine when we weren’t leaving the house more than once or twice a week. But, now that places are starting to open again, a lot of places require you to sanitize upon entry and have pumps dotted around to encourage you to use it more. While the increased push on hygiene is 100% essential, I can’t be alone in the fact my hands are starting to suffer again, so here are a few simple tips as to how to protect your hands during the coronavirus pandemic.
Are your hands dry?
Mine are. I have dry skin, not a great starting point when the sanitizer is coming out at least once an hour. But I’m also a food blogger, after a few hours of playing around with flour, pastry, dough or whatever else I’m making, my hands are usually ruined. And I’m sure a lot of you also suffer from occupations that cause similar issues.
By now we’re all aware that things like soap and alcohol (sanitizer) are stripping and drying, but there’s not a lot we can do about that given the current situation, is there?
Actually, there is.
How To Protect Your Hands During the Coronavirus Pandemic
Alcohol Free Sanitizer

I knew that alcohol free sanitizers existed, but I never bothered to hunt one down. And I was always slightly sceptical as to whether they worked. But then I found FulviSafe, the alcohol free hand sanitizer, and something stuck out to me. It’s anti-bacterial, as they all are, but it’s also anti-viral, which many aren’t.
Being alcohol free, it’s far less likely to strip your hands of moisture and being anti-viral as well as anti-bacterial made it sound like the perfect option.
For all the parents out there
Being alcohol free also comes with another bonus, this one is baby safe. I’m sure many parents of little ones have had a bit of internal struggle over recent months when it comes to keeping babies clean and safe. We all know that kids love to stick their hands in absolutely everything, and during a pandemic, that’s far less than ideal. You want to keep them as safe as possible, but maybe don’t love the idea of covering them in alcohols and chemicals every two seconds? This one is for you.
The bottle is 50ml, which is fairly standard for a sanitizer, but will go a very long way if we’re talking about using it on the little ones.

I can’t tell you how excited I was to try this, I’m the kind of person who carries sanitizer at all times, not just during the pandemic and my hands hate me for it. So, if this works and helps save my skin, it’s a gamechanger.
Obviously, there’s no way of me confirming how successful it is as an anti-viral, but it feels a lot like regular sanitizer when I use it. It absorbs the same, has the same watery gel texture before you rub it in, but my hands don’t feel dry. Unprecedented circumstances. They feel clean, and freshly washed, but not at all tight or dry.

Speaking of dry skin…

The range also includes a hand cream, which has all of the same anti-viral/ anti-bac and baby safe properties as the sanitizer. If you are out and about using regular sanitizer, you can use this to add a little moisture back in afterwards while safe in the knowledge you’re still protected. Or you can be like me and use them as a pair even if your hands don’t feel dry after sanitizing. Hand cream is never a bad idea…
Both products in the range contain lemongrass, which I think is the main scent when you use them. I like that it smells quite fresh, my mum on the other hand wasn’t so sure. Whether you’re keen on the scent or not, they definitely smell better than the clinical alcohol based gels.

The hand cream comes in a tube and a bottle, both 50ml, which is on the smaller size for a hand cream. But in order to protect your skin while out and about, I think this is a great option as your handbag hand cream (we all have one of those, right?). It’s quite light and absorbs very quickly, which is great and very practical for daytime use. But for my fellow people with reptilian like skin, I recommend an extra step for some added TLC.

Sleeping gloves?

You might think I’ve lost my mind here, but did you know that moisturising gloves are a thing? I have a few pairs and I’ve been using them for years now. Granted, I’m usually lazy with them at this time of year and use them the most in winter, but they really do help lock in some extra moisture.
I like to use mine with a really heavy cream, like the Palmer’s one photographed (CF) to add some extra moisture. This might seem like a step too far for some of you, but I sleep in mine to start my day with the softest skin possible.
If your hands get dry throughout the day, I highly recommend trying this step. Save your anti-viral/ anti-bac option for daytime use, then use the highly greasy/ heavy option at night for a full repair.
Have your hands been suffering due to the pandemic? If they have, I hope you found this useful!
Until next time,
Sophie
Ooof! Yes!! My hands are dry at the best of times because of my eczema but it’s even worse now! I’ve heard of sleeping gloves but I may have to try those and the alcohol-free sanitizer!
Great post, hun!!
Mine too!! I have psoriasis on my hands which have gotten so bad thanks to the constant hand washning and use of antibac. I went to a shopping mall last week and you have to use antibac to to in and out of every store, I must have had about 10+ doses of antibac in a few hours, and my skin was burning!!! I’ve been prescribed medicated cream now and I apply it at night with some cotton gloves. It’s a tad better though x
This blog post is so informative! Also – I’m so glad I’m not the only person who uses moisturising gloves…
I love the Palmers hand cream and am really intrigued by alcohol free hand sanitiser – this is absolutely something that I will be looking into! Thank you for the recommendations!
My hands have suffered so much so, they have even been drying out when wearing gloves (at work ppe). I have to try the hand cream in this set! Lemongrass always smells like lemon sherbet to me, so this is definitely a cream that I would love. Moisturising gloves are fab too, aren’t they? Cocoa butter is great for that deep moisturising!
Thanks for sharing!

I’ve only been using the set for about a week but I’m already noticing that my hands are feeling softer again. I swear by those gloves even if I do look a bit ridiculous wearing them
I am constantly using the alcohol based hand sanitizer at work right now and it’s killing my hands. I had no idea that an alcohol free hand sanitizer existed! Thank for sharing this! I’ve been thinking about getting moisturizing gloves too because of how dry my hands have been.
I’ve been using so much hand sanatiser my hands have dried out so badly, but I’ve managed to get my hands soft again and not irritated. This product sounds wonderful.

Moisturising gloves are such a good idea! We are in the middle of winter and I get dry hands usually (and even more now) so this would be fantastic. And thanks for the alcohol-free product recommendation!
I will have to look for something like this because my hands have been cracked and sore since this whole thing started. The sanitizer is just wreaking my hands but I really don’t want to get sick, having another option thats less harsh on my skin is definitely worth looking into!
My hands have suffered during the pandemic, all that constant hand washing hasn’t done them any favours! I’ve been using lots of hand cream to get through it, I love the sound of Fulvi Safe, it sounds like a really good product! x

I’m going to have to check this out for my husband. He has always had dry hands and he’s been working throughout the whole lockdown as his job was deemed ‘essential’, which means that he has been washing/sanitizing like crazy this whole time. They are SERIOUSLY showing it at this point! I’m sure he’d love to have an option that isn’t causing his hands to crack and bleed because they are so dry…
Mine were bleeding at the start of the pandemic with all of the extra hand washing too so I’m doing my best to prevent that now we’re going out a little more again. These have been working well for me so far. I hope you can find something that helps him out soon!
I used barrier cream all the time when doing engineering at college and at work, it is wonderful stuff.
FulviSafe sounds like a fantastic brand, my hands have got so dry from all the hand washing so I definitely need to check out their hand cream! I love how it has a lemongrass scent too!
This is a great post! I will definitely look to see if this brand is available to me, or another that is alcohol free and anti-viral! Thanks for the information!
The ingredients seem mostly natural and I’m big into that too! Thanks for sharing, I need to look this up.
These products seems great. I filmed video about all of hand creams which I use now, but I always searching for new products.

This post was really helpful so thank you for this! I’ve never seen a post like this but thank you for your help! Loved the time that you put into this to help all of us throughout the pandemic!
A good hand cream is so important. When my youngest started back in school they had to wash hands constantly (there was a very strict rule set from the government to follow) which resulted in hundreds of kids all over Denmark ending up with hand eczema. We caught it fairly early with my kiddo, but his hands still ended up cracked and red. Even now, with a few months of creams he still got dry patches.
I love that this is baby safe!
Washing tends to dry my hands out, so I like to keep a tin of salve/lotion with me at all times to keep my skin hydrated. On these hot summer days, my face also likes a little extra love too. 🙂
Oh mine are definitely dryer than normally! Good product tips, thank you for sharing. I am looking for a facial barrier cream that I could use under the mask. Turns out my face is not happy about masks but of course I will still wear one.
Really good post, and yes my hands have definitely been suffering! Great products, thanks for sharing!
I think most people’s hands are suffering these days. Soap, hand sanitizer and hand cream are certainly daily essentials. I’ve not heard of this brand before (although I have heard of Palmers). I might have to check it out.
Very interesting. Most definitely my hands have been extra dry lately. This product looks amazing. Love your tip about your moisturizing gloves 🙂

Thank you for writing this, I am a fan of alcohol-free sanitizer. I would have to check this out. Love that it came with a barrier cream.
Some alcohol is really drying to the hands! Good thing there products like this that are gentle on the hands 😀 Thanks for sharing!
Apart from moisturizing gloves there are also sheet masks for hands! I haven’t tried those myself but I’ve seen them around. They come for feet, too. Glad there’s this alternative sanitizer for those with dry hands! All the sanitizing and washing isn’t a peach to skin, so it’s good to know there are antibac non-drying alternatives.
This has definitely been more of an issue – esp. with the recent recalls. Great article!
Oh I need some alcohol free sanitiser! My hands are also really dry lately. I have been using hand cream which definitely helps too x
Great post, My poor hands are so sore and flakey. My hands were always my favourite body part but now I am hiding them away!
I know the sanitiser is a MUST but finding something kinder would be great. Thank you so much for sharing x
This is a great post!!! My hands are so clean, and i sanitize every day!
Oo this sounds like a really great hand sanitiser, I have been on the lookout for a while that is anti bacterial and anti viral, it’s also so great that it’s alcohol free, my hands have definitely been feeling the dryness! X

This brand is new to me but sounds great. This is the time when we need a good sanitizer as well as a good hand cream. I like that these are gentle on the hands. 🙂

These sound like some great products. I had such dry hands part way through lockdown, so I bought some of those gloves and have been using them every week and have definitely noticed a difference.
I haven’t been using sanitiser much as I work from home so I just wash my hands but they are still so dry! x
These sound great – my hands are really suffering at the moment. I keep having to put intense moisturiser on at night with sleep gloves just to ease them a bit xx
Really useful post Sophie! I think we’ve all felt victimised by the constant hand washing. At the start of lockdown my hands were so bad, they were BLEEDING!!! But thankfully they’ve improved now. Not sure whether it’s from anything I’m using or perhaps I’m washing them less than I was at the beginning. But thank you for sharing these products!
I have been using so much hand cream!!! xx
This is so helpful! I’d not heard of this brand before but definitely want to give them a try now xx

I have really dry skin in general so the pandemic has left me with sore, cracked hands! I love the sound of the FulviSafe range, they sound so much more gentle and lemongrass just happens to be one of my favourite scents ever! I’m not quite at the sleep gloves stage, but if we’re still sanitizing our hands all the time in winter I can see that being in my future!
